GeForce GTX 450 and GTX 460

Greetings,

Would you please take a look at the Nvidia's specs for their GTX 450 and 460 graphics card and tell me if you think the differences between them is significant and on what basis you formed your opinion?

The 460 is definitely better. If you look on the specs sheet, you can see the differences in clock speeds, bandwidth, and actual power. The 460 has slightly lower clock speeds, but twice the bandwidth, and a higher texture filling speed.

On the other hand the 460 requires 54 more watts of power, as well as an additional power pin and a 450W recommended PSU.

Thanks for the clarity. I can see the difference in specs but admittedly I do not yet know enough to understand what that translates into as far as performance goes. Please tell me what the bandwith indicates and what spec reveals that the 460 requires 54 more wattage. And, where is it indicated that an additional power pin is needed and what is that?

BTW, I have the 450.

BTW, I have the 450.

The bandwidth is the amount of information that can be translated at once. If the bandwidth was a highway, the 450 has 2 lanes, and the 460 4 lanes.
54 watts just means it pulls 54 watts of power more. The second 6pin is so that it can pull that when needed. The 6 pin comes from the power supply, most now have 2 for that reason.

The 460 is the way to go like LB has stated, also if your power supply dosen't have the additional 6 pin plug the card comes with a 2 molex to 6 pin connetor.

Better for seeing the difference in the specs between the two here,

For as too how much faster, just check any of the reviews for the GTS 450 (it came out after the GTX 460) and they will all show the difference to be expected. For the most part the GTX 460 is roughly 1.5x faster than the GTS 450 depending on resolution and settings.

In general no, but certain things like the speed of the slot can affect it if it is really low quality.

That is the slot type, and generally if there is just 1 it runs at x16 speed, but when you get 2 or more they are usually halved.
