Solved Windows 7 SP1 Failed to Install - 0X800736B3

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would rather not have to do a fresh install of Windows just to successfully apply the SP1 update, but here is a summary of what I've tried to do thus far:

Attempted Actions:
(1) Windows Update - SP1 Install Failed (0x800736B3)
(2) Install from Microsoft Download Center (MDC) - Failed

Received message that error is fixed, and reattempt to install from Windows Update - Failed (0x800736B3)

End Notes:
As further background some Windows updates had similar issues, which were resolved from installing the Windows hot fix or installing after rebooting with only system drivers. But this time around no-joy, I hope someone around here can suggest other possible solutions I may have missed.

Thanks, but already attempted see action (5). While it worked on previous Windows update errors, with same error code, it unfortunately doesn't work when installing SP1.

If you have the Intel integrated graphics driver and driver version 8.15.10.2104 through 8.15.10.214, visit the computer manufacturer's website to see whether a newer driver is available. Igdkmd64.sys (64-bit)

Also check in disk management that the System partition is marked active. If there is no System volume, mark the Windows volume as active.

After checking the graphics driver, as suggested by DMHolts57, one cause I have seen for this error is an infected computer.

Resolved w/ Fresh Install of Windows

Updated Attempts:
(8) Execute sfc /scannow

After running the diagnostic, the log contain a series of errors which the diagnostic wasn't able to fix, rather than taking the time to identify and attempt to remedy each line item error, I opted to start with a clean slate.

(9) Fresh Install of Windows - Success

Thanks for the suggestions, but as you can reference the OP, I use a discrete graphics card on a LGA1366 motherboard which does not have integrated graphics.

Yes, I understand. Forums are an form a discourse that people volunteer their time to help, share, or bounce ideas off of, which is why it can often be more effective than contacting customer service. But disagree with the latter part with respect to posting on multiple forums. Generally speaking as etiquette, multiple posting on a single forum is frown upon, but to contend that posting same topic on different forums won't result in a faster response is empirically false. I often find that aficionados, whether that be in the tech world to say firearms industry, are highly specialized in the experience and knowledge of certain disciplines, and thus gravitate towards one forum versus another. Thus casting a wider net is advantageousness to get varying opinions.

Rising this post, i found a solution for this problem.
Using a installation disk, you could restore de original file C:\Windows\System32\config\Components.
On various same posts on the Web i found the same questions about this problem, but today i found a solution in case of steps below won't work.
- REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS;
- REG DELETE "HKLM\Components" /v "PendingRequired" /f;

The way to do this is start Windows in safe mode, backup the original file and copy the file from installation disk to the C:\Windows\System32\config\Components.
Restart Windows in normal mode and install the update.
