Is a 64 bit really much better than 32 bit?

I am using and I think have always used a 32 bit and have no compliants.

There were one or two graphic programs from Adobe that could only run on 64 which I guess I might have missed out on - but do people here really shout about 64? Is it worth the upgrade?

If you have a need to have 4GB of RAM, it's a necessity. With regards to most other applications, I think the average user would struggle to hit a wall with 32bit that would perform much better in 64bit. For example, 64bit Office handles large datasets much better. But most people don't realize that a large dataset would be something like a 2GB excel spreadsheet.....not a 250K file for managing their budget.

Thanks for that - slightly off-topic but I agree with your comment about Apple in your signature. Not to diss them but my wife swears by them but I just dont understand the value either....i guess they just look good...

Anyway but to the topic - I think 64 is best suited for a home server or running many programs at once. Thanks for all advice!

not necessarily, only if those applications are native 64bit applications and perform better. For many many years, businesses ran servers that were 32bit and these performed just fine even servicing hundreds and thousands of users and running applications. These types of loads will far and away exceed what happens in a home environment.
