Built a new P67 rig

I just built a new P67 based rig with all the latest hardware, however the picture taking skills weren't as good. Anyways here are the specs.

I love the P67 Sabertooth. Looks great. It's what I was gonna get, until a friend of mine said he'd sell me his i7 for just £100, so thought I'd save a bit of money and go with that. There's an x58 Sabertooth, too which I'm going with.

Almost went with the X58 Sabertooth myself then I read the forums here about the Sandybridge P67 boards and the Intel 2600K which has a faster speed than first generation i7's matched in speed only by the Intel Core™ i7-990X Processor Extreme Edition at 3.46GHz but the i7 2600k is approx $800 less. Another good thing was that Intel and board manufacturers completed the B3 revision in a timely manner.

yea i have a Corsair 750 Modular. I could save some cash, as i have some parts i could just use on it. but im like you and want a New Build. hehe
but once you OC the 980x or 990x the 2600k is left for dust. 6 is better then 4.
8 & 12 cores comming soon. 1 - 2yrs maybe.
so for a £230 2600k & it's near on par with a 980x, not the 990x. Stock Speed. and them 2600k can most all do 5Ghz on air. unlike all the i5k. you got a great cpu for the next year or two.

im trying to work out what is the best for me. ;/

New Sandy Build? or upgrade my 920 to 970 or wait for ivy/z68

I'd go with the Sandy Bridge one. I'm only going for an x58 i7 myself because it saves me some money as I'm getting it for a very good price.

Hi DaGooN if you've got an X58 i7 setup now, I'd seriously look at keeping it till Intel releases their new processors later this year.

I was seriously thinking about replacing my i7-950 system with a Sandy Bridge system but couldn't justify the cost of doing it. And the i7-920/950 is no slouch. Yeah it might not be as fast as a 2600K, but I don't see it struggling to run anything out there now. And for a cheaper price (as in cheaper than building a Sandy Bridge system) you could go with a 970, especially if you found a good deal on one. I know my 950 runs great and doesn’t struggle with anything, so a 970 would be sweet.

I’m not bashing the 2600K as I think it’s one heck of a chip and darn sure wouldn’t mind having one myself. I just don’t think X58 i7 owners need to dish them for a Sandy just yet, especially since Intel is supposedly be releasing new chips by end of year.

yea that is the same thought's i have running around my head. i found a good deal on a 970 £378. and had that same thought, why not just upgrade the CPU on my 1366. works out cheaper then a new build. but you know how it is right ;/ you want the new tech just to have the new tech hehe.. but like you said, my 920 @ 3.8 24/7 and 4.2 when i render videos ect. it is a lil beast! im going to wait it out i think, and see what AMD bulldozer & ivy Bridge has to offer. i mean 1 more year on my 920 ain't going to be sluggin anytime soon.

Trust me, that 2600K has impressed me a lot. I was seriously thinking about getting one, but in the end I couldn't justify it since I had just updated my 920 to a 950 (got the 950 for less than 200 bucks). Plus I still have my fully functional Q6600 system that the wife uses.

Yeah that 2600K is tempting, but I'll wait and see what the X58 replacement has to offer.... should be sweet(er)

Now... If I didn't have my current system.... i'd be all over that 2600K

The 2600k is only about $90 - $95 more (can) but with .10 GHz and 2 MB cache increase over the 2500k.

The 2600k also has 8 threads and is an i7 processor while the 2500k has 4 threads and is an i5 processor.

You twisted my arm I been on the fence with going 2500k/2600k for a week now. I saw so many 2500k builds at 4.5-5ghz I couldn't understand why I should go with the 2600k. I already have my Asus P8P67 Pro / 16gb G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600 and Hyper 212 cooler. This weekend is my cpu/case/psu

Looking good so far, I haven't even tried to OC and my system is plenty fast the way it is. A Sata III SSD also helps as they are way faster than traditional Spinner drives.

I cannot believe that you guys with i7's want to upgrade. I've got a Q9550 and cannot justify upgrading that to a Sandy Bridge yet. I think about it from time to time, but then I use my Q9550 and realize that it's still unbelievably fast and chews up and spits out anything that i throw at it.

You guys have any suggestions for a case (sub $150?) Case fans? (Want to stay as quiet as I can without going water) a friend suggested Noctua NF-P12-1300 120mm?

Personally, I like Antec cases.
But many others really like the Coolermaster HAF cases as well.

As far as a case goes, I think this is really just personal prefernce for the most part.

Yeah I was going to recommend the HAF X case but unless there's a sale somewhere it can't be had for less than $150. If you got that, there's no need to buy fans as the stock ones does a nice job and are extremely quiet.

If possible i would like to go mid tower, I mean my main requirements are met by the haf x though i think full tower might be overkill. (I want quiet, very well cooled, usb3, hotswap sata)

When you finally do upgrade to something like an i7, you'll be on here on about how fast that is.

I finally retired my 9550, and as I play mostly games on my PC my i7 is noticeably quicker, despite having the 9550 at 3.6GHz.
