I did a clean install of Windows 7 home premium on my laptop quite awhile ago. My browsers started loosing passwords and first off I blamed it on Firefox and took it off trying a number of different brands. Finding that enventually they all followed suit including the new iexplorer. I can type in a password for a web site and it will ask me if it should save it, answering yes it will keep it for a daowever y, a hour, a week, wh knows. It works this way with all the browers I have installed. The other part of this is the volume, it changes constantly from mute to high and all points in between. Very fustrating more on the password side than the volume side. This has been going on for a long time now and I am looking for a fix. I am willing to format and clean install win 7 but only as a last resort. Thanks in advance for any help.

Regarding the disappearing passwords, do you run any cleaners like ccleaner or similar?

For the sound, also check whether there are any enhancements.

As far as the sound problem. Since this is a notebook there is more then likely a keyboard combo of keys, and or one specific button, that raise and lower the volume and or turn it on or mute it. Could be in you normal use of the notebook you are accessing this key combo completely by accident the way you position your hand on the keyboard.

Just a thought, I own a couple of notebook and strange stuff always happens when I typing.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Using the keboard, the volume changes without even touching the keyboard. I can be in explorer and looking at USATODAY and the sound is muted and quit that and start playing solitare and all of a sudden half wy through the game the sound will come on at half volume and not in that order, it could be the other way around or opening and closing different programs. On the cleaning programs, I do run Registry Cleaner from PC Tools, but sometimes I dont run that for a month or two and it happens many times. As I am typing this the sound has come on and I have reset it to off about six times. The sound once it comes on it stays on as far as I know.

Bingo! It doesn't take long before these anomaly threads often reveal use of a so-called Registry Cleaner.

Win7 is a perfectly lean and balanced OS which does not require or tolerate any compound registry tweaking whatsoever - it will almost always come back to bite you.

The exception is the Registry tab on free CCleaner, which is the genius app in this field and one of the most respected apps in all of the tech world.

Using CCleaner Disk and Registry tabs followed by a good free defragger like Puran or Auslogics is all that Win7 requires, and many experts believe it doesn't even need that.

Is it possible you can System Restore to before you used the reg cleaner? If not, run SFC -SCANNOW Command now along with the other troubleshooting steps up to and including a Repair or Clean Reinstall until the problems disappear.
