Random reboots for no reason

It gave me a weird error code that I couldn't understand and it did create a memory dump but I can't remember where it is located exactly. It's in the windows files under temp or something. Where could I find it? I would love to upload it on here if I can find it.

Also, before whenever I searched System Restore in the search bar and clicked on it and waited I could create a restore point etc. but now when I do it, it reboots while waiting for the options. It's slowly getting worse. This is a pain, no one identified what is wrong with this when its happened before. =(

Could be problems with hardware.
Please run these tests and report back the results
1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-cpu-stress-test-prime95.html
3. Hard drive scan usings SeaTools - SeaTools for Windows | Seagate - Both long and short tests

Okay, here are my reports. I ran Memtest a few months ago for about 6hrs and nothing came up, but I'll do it again. As for the other two tests, what if my computer restarts when installing them? Can I install them in Safe mode or is their another way? It already rebooted once installing the seagate program.

You can try them from safe mode. Shouldn't make a difference. As for the hard drive test, you can try to use a bootable one.

Okay, I did the HD Test and it passed perfectly. I started to run the CPU Stress test (the blend option) and it's been running for 2 and a half hours and I got an error with "Worker 1" which I assume is core 1?

Here's the end report when it failed.

Does this mean my CPU is messed up? or maybe my RAM? I'll do the memtest tonight.

I just talked to an intel rep and here is what he said:

"May I know the model number of the motherboard, please?
[email protected]: Sure
[email protected]: ASUS P7P55D-E LX
Karla: I appreciate it, can I also have the memory part number as well as its specifications (speed, voltage) please?
[email protected]: Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model PGV34G1333ELK
[email protected]: Voltage: 1.65
Karla: Thanks... I have created a case for you, it is 8000246779.
[email protected]: I never get reboots when running graphic games like World of Warcraft, etc.
[email protected]: It's been changing, I've noticed it reboots sometimes when I let the computer idle with just my web browser open, or with nothing open at all
[email protected]: and actually, whenever I try to create a windows restore point now, it reboots, along with installing a variety of applications
[email protected]: When I run the computer in safe mode and install things or let it idle, no reboots, not a single one.
[email protected]: So Im almost positive it is hardware
[email protected]: But the trouble is what part exactly.
Karla: The most common root cause of a system restarting, with these processors are: not compatible memory, defective memory or, a defective processor due to not compatible memory. I am seeing your memory is not compatible with your processor, it runs at 1.65V and all Intel(R) Core(tm) i3, Intel(R) Core(tm) i5 and Intel(R) Core(tm) i7 processors support memory running at a 1.5V no more than 1.60V, otherwise the processor is being forced to run out of its specifications, which will make your processor fail sooner than expected and/or will make your system to run unstable at some point, voiding the processor's warranty. You can actually confirm on the processor data sheets that this processor supports 1.5, please review this at page 11 under System Memory support here:
Karla: http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/322164.pdf
Karla: At this point, you may want to first test compatible memory. This way you will be able to know if your processor is or is not already being damaged
Karla: Knowing this, you will be able to know which is the failing part
[email protected]: So I should acquire memory with a 1.5 voltage?
[email protected]: Then do more tests and see what I get
[email protected]: Is it possible to run this RAM at 1.5?
Karla: Basically by testing compatible memory you will be able to know if the processor failed
Karla: Not sure, the memory manufacturer should be able to let you know"

What do you think? Apparently my RAM voltage isnt compatible. Can I run it at 1.5 or do I need new RAM to test if the CPU is damaged?

Alright, I ran memtest for 6 passes and I got 2 errors so I think changing my RAM is a good idea. Hopefully it didn't damage my CPU, that would suck to pay $200 to get a new one, and hopefully that's the end of that. I'd hate for it to be the mobo also..

I'll post again when I get the new RAM and see if I get a reboot and stress test my CPU again.

Okay, I ordered that set of RAM and installed it today. I tested it quickly by opening System Restore to see if it wouldn't reboot, but it restarted instantly. I plan on running a CPU test asap, and probably a memtest also. Perhaps the old RAM screwed up my CPU?

I've read that some people with this problem have had bad motherboards or something and when they replaced the mobo with a replacement of the exact same kind, it fixed their restarts. How can I tell it's the CPU rather than the mobo or visa-versa?

Also, when I'm doing the CPU Blend test, my CPU temp. is at 58-60 C. is that okay? It reads 100% CPU usage on speedfan.

You can't really tell which piece of hardware is messed up unless you take it in to get it tested. Those CPU temps are fine.

Alright, after running the CPU test for 4 and a half hours with no errors, I called up ASUS tech support and explained my problem. They were very nice and after being transferred to a more skilled tech support agent, he put me up for a replacement mobo (the same model of course). I'll find out if it fixes the problem after I swap them out of course. I'm pretty sure it'll be the end of it, but maybe it's the CPU or some kind of software?

Is there any steps I should take when swapping the motherboard out?

As a precaution, you can back up your important documents in case for some reason you need to format and reinstall Windows after swapping the motherboards.

I got the replacement motherboard from ASUS today and I took my time and installed it. It booted up perfectly with no problems and then the moment of truth....

I ran system restore, something that previously caused it to reboot instantly. No reboot. It ran perfectly. I then ran windows update and installed some updates that previously caused my system to restart. It installed them cleanly, and I got no reboot. I'll be certain within the next few days or so, but It looks like my system is stable and running happily once again!

Thank you so much for all the help mgorman87, I really appreciate it. Without the tests and troubleshooting, It probably would've taken me forever to eventually replace the motherboard. I really appreciate everything, I can't say it enough.
