Air cooling LGA775 what works well?

I am seeing a lot of Zalman products out there. I also hear a lot of talk about Tunic. I am thinking about something like this. What are you enthusiasts using?

Also, anyone aware of adapters that connect molex 4 pin case fans to mobo headers so I can turn these case fans down? I can't really find anything. Do I need new fans?

I use Arctic coolings PWM fans, they can be connected to each other and then they are connected to the CPU 4pin cable and then to the MB so they are all controlled simultaneously. Arctic cooling fans are silent and perform well.

No experience with the Zalman's. I got this cpu cooler OCZ Technology | Products | Cooling Products | OCZ Vanquisher CPU Cooler. It came with the PSU actually, it was by chance. It is cheap and amazingly performs cool and silent. I attached the readings.

(P.S. It is summer here and 32C at the moment. I saw CPU heat 22C before it got hotter.)

I guess I need an after-market heatsink. I had my Q8200 at 73C running prime95 for about an hour. It really isn't too bad but would like to get it down. Intel states 71.4C as the thermal (something or other). It's hard to find good max temp specs. Also, every monitor I have states a different temp. I don't know what to believe. I keep reading real temp is good. Better safe than shutting down I suppose. Thanks for the reply.




Here's with prime95 running for about 15 minutes. It stays about here for hours. I've let it go for about 3 hours so far. I hope it's okay. If anyone knows the safe temp range of quad core cpus (for sure) let me know.



Sounds like the high temp is 71.4C if anyone wants to know.

Quads get hot, but they're designed to take it, I wouldn't worry unless you got >75C within a short period of time. Especially if you don't routinely stress a CPU at 100% for hours on end.

But then again, I have a Q6600, so your CPU might have different thermal capacity. I got an aftermarket cooler just so I could set the fan on very low and maintain ~70C load, because I do a lot of video encoding for several hours on end, and noise is a problem with the stock HS.

I paid $au1200 for the cpu and $au85 for the cooler, i was not putting a crap cooler on this system.

I'm using a Noctua NH-C12P CPU Cooler on my QX6850 quad Extreme and am really pleased with the results it is giving me.

And I've got the NH-U12P and am also pleased with it.

mate... i use sythe mine on my q6600 overclocked 3.6 Vcore 1.56 and it keeps my quad cool idles 36 load 64 if i was going to change it i would go for the true 120 or wait for one of these they do look awsome coolers...Thermalright shows high-end Cyclone cooler and more - VR-Zone.com: News and Reviews

Thanks for the tip! I have to do something, at load mine is getting up above 65 and hitting 70C. I never should have let it hit 70C. I will not do it again. The stock stuff is okay to do e-mail and surf the net but how about watching HD videos. Even that worries me.

The coolers in that link look awesome. Wow!
