I recently lost my administrative account. (i.e. it is now a guest account.) I am the owner of the computer and have created a backup account that has administrative access thru the built-in admin. I was trying to get rid of the Homegroup section of Explorer when suddenly I only had Guest access. Now whenever I do anything needing UAC, I have to login through the other account.

Is there anyway to re-assign the original account (now guess access) to administrative. BTW, the account in not seen when I go to "Manage another account" on either the built-in admin or the new administrative account.

It sounds to me like you managed to halfway delete your account, somehow.

I would start by opening an elevated command prompt (rlight click and select "run as admin"), and type sfc /scannow while logged in as your admin account.

have created a backup account that has administrative access thru the built-in admin.

This statement doesn't make sense. One account doesn't get access "through" another.

Basically what I'm saying is that I created the new administrative account through the built-in admin account. Neither account can "see" the original account (now guest access) thru "Manage Accounts."

Try a system restore to the point before your accounts got screwed up.

@seavixen32 I've changed so much since that happened, I would probably lose too much before my last backup.

Well, in that case, would it possible for you to simply create yourself a new Administrator account, and then log in as it, transfer all your files, and take ownership of them?

@WebMattR Like I've said; I've already created another Administrative account. Could you tell me the most complete way to transfer all the settings? Thanks.

I would use Windows Easy Transfer. I do it all the time for customers. When it asks about the "new" and "old" computer, just think of it as they are both the same. It gets everything down to the wallpaper.
