I am trying to get rid of "Uninsatall or change a program" off the the control panel. Is there a way to do this without uninstalling the programs and reinstalling them? I am considering iobit. John

Been doing what Brink posted in that tutorial link since XP, heh.

It's a trivial registry edit; open up the tutorial he linked to, it's step #8 of option 3. What I do is simply copy-paste the UninstallString into notepad, then delete that registry key. I save the notepad paste because I'll need it when I eventually DO need to uninstall the program, of course...

OPTION TWO in the tutorial linked above would be the easiest way to remove those programs from being listed in "Programs and Features" without uninstalling the programs.

You will have to get of Programs and features to do that.

If what SIW (Simon) posted is true, then you could use a method in the tutorial below to hide the "Programs and Features" icon, or any other icon, in the Control Panel.

In Windows 7 you have to use the canonical confused name for each applet you wish to hide.

Example:

Action Center Microsoft.ActionCenter

Administrative Tools Microsoft.AdministrativeTools

AutoPlay Microsoft.AutoPlay

Backup and Restore Microsoft.BackupAndRestore

BiometricDevices Microsoft.BiometricDevices

It will work using either the canonical name, or just entering the name exactly as it appears in Control Panel icons view. I just found it easier to reference the Control Panel instead.
