Router crashes when accessing shared files

I am having trouble accessing shared files on my home network from Windows 7. I am currently running the Windows 7 64-bit RC, but i have had the same problem on earlier 32-bit beta versions.

Windows 7 is installed on a desktop computer that is wired to a Belkin wireless G router. I have a laptop running Windows XP that is connected via wireless to the network.

The problem is, whenever I try to access shared files, folders, computers, or even click on the network icon from Windows 7, the home network crashes. A minute after trying to access network files from windows 7 I get "limited connectivity" and all networked computers loose internet access as well as access to the home network. In order to "fix" the network I have to shutdown the Windows 7 PC, unplug the router, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Again, this only happens when I try to access the home network. I am able to browse the internet, download files, etc, in Windows 7 with no problem until I try to access shared files/computers.

I know the problem has nothing to do with the desktop PC's hardware because I am able to access shared files with no problem from a dual-boot ubuntu installation. I have also tried "unchecking" IPv.6 from the network adapter settings in Windows 7.

With taking a quick look at your problem my guess would be your router needs a firmware upgrade. You can do this by heading to belkins website and search for your product. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your model which can be found on the bottom of the router.
This would be my first step if you have to reset the router to get your network back.

While not directly related to your immediate problem, I want to share that I am having router issues as well.

Direct machine-to-machine copies from my Win7 desktop to my Win7 laptop over my wireless router are SLOOOOOOOW. They don't crash the router, but they run at 500K/sec. maximum!

The Win7 machines, both wired and wireless, each get multiple megaBYTES down from the Internet (Comcast tier2). And they communicated fine when they were XP/Vista.

So again, there's SOMETHING going on with Win7 home networking...

First Wireless will always be slower than a wired network. Wireless is 56Mbs, wired is basicly 100MBs. Wireless Network Speeds - How Fast is Wireless Networking? I try to never send large files over wireless due to the long times needed, I play my laptop into a space cable I have on my desk for large file transfer for Laptop to desktop no matter what the OS is.
Second there are many other items you have to account for are you running a firewall on the machines, what anitivirus software you are using because it maybe scanning the data as it comes into the machine.
Other items running on the machine that might be taking up CPU cycles and ram.
Three if your router does not support IPv6 turn it off in windows.
Again check and see if there is a firmware update to your router

I had very similar issues with earlier W7 builds (pre-beta, beta and some builds around RC) with a Belkin router and a D-Link router. I would start transferring files across the network and it would promptly interrupt the connection both between the computers and with the internet.

At the time, it seemed like Homegroup was the culprit but I'm not sure because the problems seem to have gone away since some of the post-RC builds I've used.

Same Belkin Router issues and Win7/XP

I am having the same problem with my Win7 Laptop wireless connected to a Belkin Wireless G router F5D7234-4 V1000. (Firmware is up to date!!)
If I try to access a file share or shared printer of my Windows XP laptop (wired) the router crashes instantly. All PC's are in same workgroup.
