My PC started to get a weird popup saying "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver , Version 275.33 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." at my lower right. This appears everytime I play games like Hon and L4D. Please help :(

Filling out your system specs would be a big help......Up dating your drivers may work...or the card could be overheating or starting to fail....

My wife was using a 8500GT constantly the same problem...updated drivers stopped it for a week...then started up again...replaced with a ATI 4830, problem went away.....you didn't say if you followed any of my first post or not....so check for dust balls/alien life forms ect in the case...clean with canned air, if a laptop use canned air with the system off...

On the bottom of my post...in left corner, it says "My System Specs"...click it and there is the specs for my system...At the top of the page is "user cp" click it...on the right is "edit system specs" that is how you fill out system specs...that is important because suggestion on how to fix your problem can vary with the system you are running...for example if your computer lives in a CoolerMaster full tower with a empty 16x pci slot I can suggest some nice video cards and power supplies...if its a laptop I can express my condolences for your loss....

Hi People

The problem is heat. I've got the same system (NVIDIA Ge Force GT 430) so get a small fan ( like i did ) open the side opening of the computer and face the fan at the Graphics card. If you have MSI afterburner, open that and you can monitor the heat and if it gets higher than 60 C then the card shuts down and displays the problem. I play wow and I had the problem for weeks and once I got the heat controlled i didnt have the problem anymore.

Hope this helps

Ok, I uninstalled my drivers and downloaded the latest ones but none seems to remove the error. My screen is sometimes getting pixelated and distorted in weird ways even when I'm not doing anything that heavy to my system. Can't play cause everything gets pixelated and sometimes causes my computer to hang up. And then it pops up again, any more help? :(

Possible Fix For Display Adapter Has Stopped Working

I have dealt with this a few times now. Each time I would go to the extreme end and format.
Today, I may have found a combined fix made up from a few ideas that have floated around the web.
I do a lot of video editing ( Adobe Premiere pro CS5 ). I also game ( WoW ) and view a ton of you-tubes.
One thing I noticed was that if I had multi-Tabs open in Firefox each switch of a tab would cause the "Display adapter has stopped working" bug, NOT just on videos.

System Specs should be in my profile but here is the base as well::
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Intel core i7 920 ( not OC'd )
12 GB System Ram
Nvidia GTX 460 1 GB ( default settings )

What I did today was reboot into safe mode and deleted all instances of my old video drivers and video card in Programs as well as in Devise Manager.
This took several times ( i think 3 total ). To clear all mention of my card.
When that was done I was looking at a VGA screen.
I then installed fresh 285.62 Nvidia Drivers.
I did custom install and did not install any 3D options.
I went to 3D settings and set my PhysX to my card.

Now whether this was caused by overlapping installs which corrupted my video drivers or a combination of those 3 steps above, I have had ZERO crashes or Video Restarts since doing it. I have viewed about 50+ You Tubes and ran Premiere Pro, which I could not do 4 hours ago.
I have 6 tabs open right now and have let them sit for a few minutes each and have opened them at random times.

So far, so good, my fingers are crossed.

Britton30,

Thank you for that link. I did as you instructed.
Booted Into Safe Mode and then used Driver Cleaner.
I checked all of the Nvidia boxes and hit clean.
I then tried to load the driver again but it showed the current driver the same.

It did clear all of the registry settings though.
I am hopeful this worked.

Thank you again

It's been "my" experience that if the problem persists after driver changes the problem is usually a weak power supply, or a failing card...What brand is your power supply?

A lot of people are having problems with the 285 driver.

Many including my self are using the 275.33 WHQL. If I use any newer driver I have problems.
Something to consider.

@Ivan the SoSo :
Thank you for the reply.
Its a Corsair GS700, which was a new replacement 4 months ago when I bought the GTX 460.

I ran a few more tests last night. You Tubes, Premiere Pro and a few static pages for a few hours. So far its holding after the Drive Sweeper.
As I said though, it swept the Registry but, it did say on reinstall of the Nvidia Video driver that the current was the same as the new version. Unsure why it didn't remove that as well.

Once again though my fingers are crossed. There are literally thousands of posts on the web concerning this issue, and its a new one to me as well as others. Mine seemed to start after SP1 install on Windows 7 64. Thats a guess though.. and the thought of formatting again makes me ill. Feels like the old 98SE days.

@Hopalong X I may sweep them again and do the roll back to that older driver if it resumes today. Thanks for the information.

Edit to add: There is a new Beta driver out as well. The 285.79 I may try too.

If you choose another sweep don't reboot after it runs. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and check for any Nvidia items and uninstall them.

It seems most GFX drivers, AMD and nVIDIA are buggy these days, from flashing displays and odd colors to "This driver has stopped working" errors. I have the 285.62 running, surprisingly, just fine. Hopalong has the same card as me and it's wonky for him.
The only reason, as I see it, to update a driver is to add functionality to do something not possible before. Since I don't play Grand-Theft-War-Craft-Battlefield IV, I am happy with older drivers too sometimes.
For a long time I used the 270.61 driver from April.
