Mozilla to Force FF Update

Status

Some people don't like programs making changes to their system that they don't know about and can't easily stop. It is the same reason a lot of people don't apply windows updates automatically. It is about having control over your machine.

I can understand that but I've rarely encountered an update for Windows or Chrome that caused issues that required me to prevent them from auto-updating/installing.

I keep hearing of some folks where they say how a Windows Update patch completely blew up their OS and all... and my comment to that is, if their machine did that, then it's very likely their software installation integrity was already compromised and was in dire need of servicing/repair/reloading/re-imaging.

I personally like to have control over my windows updates. I have had occasions where too many updates at once caused failures where feeding them in two or three at a time worked fine. I also had a BSOD doing a large number of updates at once but the actual cause of that was a dodgy memory stick. I wouldn't have the same problem with program updates of course but it is still nice to know and perhaps time them more conveniently especially if a restart is required.

As much as I myself like Firefox 3.5 i have taken the jump to Firefox 4. You can get themes but there isn't as many you can pick from but there are still some nice ones you can use. Here is the link for the themes for Firefox 4.

Just install the Firefox Addon Compatibility Reporter and most of your old addons will still work.
The addon sidebar /dialog will say they are not compatible but they will work. All except one of my addons even work in Firefox Nightly v7.0a 64-bit.

I used FF 3.5 and upgraded to 4. :D I have never had single problem with either of them. I never lost bookmarks or anything else.
Add block plus, Flashblock, and Ghostery make the browser for me. I would not consider going back to IE. Also, anything to do with Google and it's nefarious tracking bugs is out of the question.

I am running FF 3.6 and I do not want to upgrade to FF4. I tried it with my laptop and I am not happy with the changes. I know there are fixes to make it more like FF3.X with the interface, but it still is not close enough for me.

So does Microsoft, but they have cut off dates for support.

Why must people be against the progression of technology.
I know its human nature to not want to adapt to change but this is getting redundant.
A few years ago Microsoft announced we need to focus more on security. Many LARGE companies and organizations didnt take the warnings MS announced. I want you to look at what kind of Cyber warfare is going on right now. This is simply because we didnt want to adapt to meet the needs to survive.

Lack of speed. Since 3.6.6, which I'm running, it's getting slower. And slower. And slower. And bigger. And bigger. (Enough fimble!)

if i'm not mistaken the reason for the auto update is due to html support which changes for all web browsers including chrome/internet explorer/safari/opera running old versions will start having problems accessing some web pages from the 1st of august.

simply put they don't and can't be patched to meet the current html 5 standard being introduced.

the other side is it costs less to support current versions instead of multiple versions that span longer periods of time.

Just because someone thinks something is better, does not make it true.
There is a reason new coke did not take off and coke classic is still around.

I myself will not upgrade to FF4.X or later because I believe the GUI changes are downgrades compared to 3.6. I don't like the changes to the right click menu work well for me in real life use and I can not get FF4 to look enough like 3.6 for my taste.
