Windows 7 blank screen

Hello, I’m Veronika I'm new here. My Windows 7 isn’t loading any longer. I am getting a blank screen. I do know what I did wrong… I forgot to remove and external HD after a recovery action, windows booted somehow from this external HD….. That’s the only explanation I have why windows isn’t loading correctly. Scary part, I can’t afford to wipe out my HD and start over again, because ALL, I really mean ALL my work (online course development, ready courses I created and others not finished yet) are located in folders on this computer, and I didn't get a chance to backup my work after I was done for the day. How can I fix it? I tried all of what I could think off still no change. Also, this laptop was upgraded to Windows 7 and originally came with a VISTA OS.
Anyone please have an idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance…

Last I tried was to repair it with the Windows 7 Installation DVD, but nothing came no prompt or anything, just a again the blank screen with the cursor.

Try pressing F8 before you see the windows logo....you may be able to get the option to go into Safe Mode. If so, back up your information before you do anything else. Then try using System Restore to go back to before the problem.

Boot on your Windows 7 install disk and run startup repair. You may need to run it 3 times successively to find out if it fixes the problem.

I tried that too.... used my Windows 7 Installation DVD, but nothing came no prompt or anything, just again the blank screen with the cursor. Once early in the recovery "panic" I've got a response, that my problem was not fixed and if I want to send it to Microsoft. I clicked yes.... that's pretty much the last time I've seen something what made sense to me. I also tried to change that the computer boots from the DVD drive... I tried all options I've was offered in the F8 section mode. I also used recovery for the last known point the system worked properly. Again... nothing .....

You have to set your BIOS to boot from the DVD before booting from the hard drive. The F8 stuff is beyond that. Usually the BIOS is accessed with the Del, or F2, or even F10 keys (different on all computers) immediately after turning the system on. It will tell you on the screen.

it's the F12 boot device I did that too. In that scenario I was getting messages such as ... boot failed.... I also used F2 and wasn't able to accomplish anything either. And that's so pretty much all I would know how to fix a problem.... unfortunately, I am not that smart when it comes to fixing a computer.... basic yes but everything else beyond.... I'm lost. Also there where options I don't even know what they mean....

I tried... Safe Mode, had a list of files and a "PLease wait on the bottom, I could hear the boot but the screen stayed black with the courser, and then after 10 seconds the drive stopped.

Safe Mode with Networking,

Safe Mode with Command Prompt (didn't know what prompt to input) so I quickly exited that option.

Did you get in the BIOS or not? If you get in tbe BIOS, you look for BOOT...and BOOT SEQUENCE. Set for DVD to be first. If you can't get that, you're going to have to take it to someone...no options.

If BIOS is set to boot from CD/DVD and Windows 7 install disk is in the drive (make sure it's spotless clean)....you should get a prompt at the top of the screen that says "Press a key to boot from CD/DVD" (or something to that effect). If you see the Windows logo, you are already past that point.

You may need to run startup repair as many as 3 times to see if the problem can be fixed.
