Hello:

I changed the name of my user account in Control Panel – User Accounts from xxx to yyy. However, C:\Users\xxx is still the same in Windows Explorer after the change. How do I change C:\Users\xxx to C:\Users\yyy without screwing anything up?

Thanks for your help.

Please read this excerpt from the tutorial regarding User Account Name :

Note
Even though the user name will be changed in the Start menu and in User Accounts (Control Panel), this will not change the C:\Users\(user name) folder name. DO NOT CHANGE the user folder name manually. If you do, you will have a lot of problems with that user account since everything is still referenced to the original C:\Users\(user name) folder name. The only way to change the C:\Users\(user name) folder name is to either create a new user account and delete the old account, or reinstall Vista.

It would be a WHOLE lot easier to create a brand new account under the name you want, and use Windows Easy Transfer to copy everything from the old account to the new. Once done, just delete the old account....done!

Thanks, guys. I will try "Windows Easy Transfer". I have looked, but realizes soon that nowhere is it going to tell me how to open this program, so let me ask you: "Where the hell is it"?

Thanks!!!

I just left this comment in another thread, but why do you need/want to change the folder name? That's a system folder that shouldn't ever be accessed directly. If my Users\username folder was something different, I'd never notice, because there's no reason to go in there.

You may be right, but I want to change the name anyway :-(
