I am new to the Windows environment, I wonder if someone can give me a pointer to find some tutorial explaining the use of the task manager especially the interpretation of the Performance monitoring Tab.

Don't get too obsessed with how much RAM Windows 7 uses. It is designed to manage what it has to get the best performance so on occasions the RAM usage may appear high.

Thanks to everyone chipping in.

What I am most interested is how the multicore CPU performs. So I am most concerned with understanding the CPU Usage info. which has a number of windows.

E.g. I have a i960, which is supposed to be 6 x CPUs, but the there shows up 8 windows, and during certain intensive tasks, e.g. video conversion, all eight windows have activities. How do I relate that back to a Hex Core CPU with these 8 windows?

Is there any in depth turorial about this?

Note that the i7-960 is a quad-core CPU. It has Hyper Threading, so it is 4 cores and 8 threads. It looks like an 8 core CPU to windows (check System Information).

So the 8 windows give you information about how much each thread is being loaded.

You are much better off looking at the Reource Monitor (button in the Tak Manager > Perfomance tab). The data there is a lot clearer and lot more informative.
