you can improve write speeds by moving the Windows swapfile to a separate HDD, away from the OS

- mine's an SSD/HDD hybrid rig, with a 32-bit W7 OS installed on the SSD
- I put the swapfile on the HDD, set at 5500MB min/max

- works a treat and frees up SSD space, too..

How do you do this?

Doing those type tweaks are not necessary.

In fact turning off the Defragger is the only necessary thing that needs to be done on an SSD after install.

I agree with hopalong, many people tweek their SSDs to death. Most of that stuff is not necessary and some of the 'tweeks' are detrimental to SSDs.

Hope they all continue at least 2-3 times the rated media wearout indicator.

Mike, is the Kingston writing that much slower than the 320? It is 54TB behind and they started at the same time.

Kingston #'s are yesterday mornings numbers.

Anvil shut down since then. Was out of town so stated he will update in the morning our time.

Numbers are lower on Kingston but it has been turned off for the past 36 hours so that makes them even lower.

Maybe an extra 20TB? Maybe more.

The Intel 320 has been writing at about 40MB's.

The Kingston avg. 32-34MB's according to the bench application. After a good cleaning it went up to 38MB's but dropped off again later that day.

There I got the abbrevations right.

The Kingston probably is low 20TB or so since it was not running for 36 hours.

That can be a big difference for what they are doing. Probably not very much for what we do.

Hammering slows it down a little more that the 320.

Practical use it is maybe 5% slower?

Normal usage 38MB's against 40MB's?

My guess it is partly the newer controller and its firmware.

That's what I meant. Big difference for them. Not for us.

EDIT: 5MB/s x60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours =420GB day

Numbering difference is on the testers. Intels started out TB.

You would ask.

TiB is 8 based.
TB is 10 based.

Here goes what I understand but could be wrong.
The Intels were reporting SMART values in MB and TB when they checked them against what they actually were writing when they started weeks ago. So that is how they were reported.

All the newer drives Samsung and Crucials they found were reporting SMART values in MiB and TiB. So they are posting accordingly.

OK, I got it. I am going to hazard a guess it is so people do not get the acronyms mixed up, TB could be misinterpreted as tuburculosis whereas it's obvious to everyone MiB is Men in Black.
