Attaching my Intel X25M (80G) drive as well as my Intel/Robson Flash Cache Module for grins. I have a pair of OCZ Vertex 30Giggers at home that I'll upload later.

no thats all i can think of unless others might suggest something, it might just be sata1 150Mbit/ps speeds which are pretty much the same as ata 133Mbit/ps.

My laptop is an ata133 but has bad sectors so it wont allow me to run the benchmark, tried low level formatting, running scandisk after formats but it just might be getting old.

I tweaked my drive layout and settings and am finally getting good results on my Windows 7 RC-1 system.

  • EVGA X58 A1 motherboard w/ Intel ICH10R controller
    .
  • (2x) OCZ Vertex 30GB SSDs in RAID 0 (60GB vol.)
    .
  • Latest Intel ICH10R drivers as of this post
  • OCZ 1.30 Firmware updated on each Vertex SSD (no jumper used)
  • SSD Write caching policy enabled in device manager
  • 64KB Stripe size
  • No write-cache buffer flushing
    .
  • Intel Matrix software installed
  • Write Back Cache enabled through Intel Matrix Storage Console
  • No TRIM used
I originally tried these drives in RAID 0 on the JMicron RAID built-in controller and ports, but read times were not nearly as good with the Intel ICH10R controller when write back cache (WBC) is enabled. Interestingly enough, the JMicron controller was faster than the Intel RAID controller without WBC. But with the caching, the Intel controller truly shines. And it's real-world usage noticable too!

I used HD Tune to test everything (the Pro trial version) in order to do a write test as well. The write test was done without Intel Matrix software, and without WBC, but with the firmware and Intel ICH10R updated drivers. Many report that the sweet spot on these is three drives in RAID 0, but I am quite happy with two for now. :)

That's very good for a single drive. Now if you get two of them together in RAID 0 you'll probably hit high 400s for MB/sec read. And you'll get 240GB total storage too. ;)

That is the plan. I can't wait. Seems like a good (maybe great) drive. I just plugged it in and put the RC on it. Seems nice.

Yup, the 120GB versions have a slight boost in performance over the 60GB and 30GB versions, though very similar. Two of these 120GBs in RAID 0 will be very nice. It will be just above my scores earlier in this thread.

Here's my system 300GB RAID 0 portion of 4 Seagate 1.5TB drives. The rest is configured as 2.7GB RAID 10, which hoses HD Tune - it seems to choke over 2TB. I get 189786MB average read :D.
