Hello dear users,

After I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my computer I got 100mb unassigned data on my SSD disk which I can't use for some reason...

- I think the reason is because lightning struck a few hundred meters away that day, so I lost electricity at home. Therefore, I had to start the installation again.

Is there any chance to get rid of those 100mb, so I can use them?

Check the picture I attached.

Thanks in advance!

BRG,
Evenol

Here you can download a free partition wizard which will hopefully allow you to move the data to the beggining of the disk, and expand the partition.
edit: what is the name of that background? it looks awsome

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, speedgamer01! :)

After a bit research, I read that this 100mb data is for system files etc. for Windows 7. But in this case it wouldn't been named "unassigned"? Just so I don't remove any important files...?

About the background; Here - Just scroll a bit down. :)

No worries. :)

I just found out here that the 100MB is actually a reserve for the system files, so I think I'll keep it as it is now. :)

This should help explain some of the usage of the 100MB.

(Bare Foot Kid)It is where the boot files are created for Windows 7 when it is installed to an unallocated Hard Disk Drive (HDD), one that has never been formatted before; it is not necessary but it does several other very useful functions, one being it adds a link to the "Windows Recovery Console" in the F8 or the "Advanced Boot Options" menu at system startup, like in the snip below.
The main advantage of the System Reserved partition, it adds a link to WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) to the F8 advanced boot options in Windows 7 that can be accessed during PC startup to repair startup errors if a Windows installer or a system repair disk isn't available for use; it also creates a central location to store the boot files needed to start Windows in a dual/multi boot situation and that makes it very easy to replace/remove a single OS when needed.

Certainly someone will correct me if I am wrong, but the System Reserved would not be marked unassigned if it was in fact the system reserved. I'm sorry that I don't read the language in your screen shot, but it appears that the C partition is marked active. If C is the active partition, then the boot files reside there and there is no system reserved.

Yes, i was pointing to the same thing.
There might have been a 100mb System reserved partition earlier, but now it has gone, and the primary parititon was left in place.

Yeah, that's just 100mb of space.

It would look like this if it was in use,

In that case, there is no reason he can't follow your advice in post #2 if he wants to. But, it does no real harm by being there.

Would be best if the OP had the OS on Disk0 & not Disk2.

Why would it be best if I had the OS on a normal HDD instead of my SSD disk? I don't get what you are trying to say...

Disk0,1 so on means the sata port that the drive is plugged into, it means the port not the disk.
Motherboards use Disk0 as default boot drive, so if you reset your bios now, you will have to set this setting again to start windows.

If you don't want to mess with hardware you don't have to swap the plugs, it was just a suggestion but it doesn't make huge differences. :)

Ah, ok. My stupidity.

I've resetted BIOS many times because of faulty OC - without the need to fix up in boot sequence. So is there still a need to swap the ports? Is there any performance related etc.? It only takes a few mins, so maybe I should do it...

If you set it as first boot disk in the bios the boot time would be equal with if you have swapped the plugs.
But it is a pretty easy thing to swap them at side of the motherboard, go ahead but wear rubber gloves if you can, at least don't touch the motherboard. :)

As you have three Hd Drives marked ACTIvE. Startup Repair will look for the first ACTIVE partition, which in your setup will be E: drive, & find no OS.
