Solved unidentified network - public network Windows 7 64bit

Very late here.... :)

I'm not sure about IP settings in your country and please be careful about the IP related info you post here... But where did you get the ip i see in the snip from?

Do you have or can you borrow another pc to prove it is not the modem router? You stated it worked well with XP right?
Can you connect another system to th same lan cable and see that it works?

If not, are you comfortable trying a reset of the router? Only if you have all the info you need to set it again in case it reverts to some old factory default? So before you do, make screenprints of all the modem settings...

Hello,

If I may jump here....:D
Pls. try this first, continue with the next tasks if this didn't work.

Click on Start.
Type services.msc and press Enter. Find the Bonjour Service. Right click on the service and select Properties.
Change the Startup type to Disabled.
Click the Stop button. You can then close the Services window.
Reboot the machine.
=================
If above suggestion is not a success please try the following:
Open up an elevated command prompt then type ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 press enter, see if the issue persist after.

You may also try replacing the problematic network adapter if you have not gone to this route yet.

AV, Firewall or Security Software - expired or existing can also be an obstacle. Completely removing/uninstalling it from your computer might help.

Let us know if it works or not then pls proceed with the router reset to the factory default setting as suggested.

I apologize if any of the the above recommendations have been suggested already. I do overlooked things unpurpose.

Good help, however the LAN card must be ok as the OP said it (and the rest of his system worked fine in XP.

Hello Gents,

Nothing works still. Quick recap:

ASUS P8Z68-v-pro
WIndows 7 Home 64bit

LAN not working;
Unidentified Network - Work network

Only WIndows 7, Office 2010, NVidia drivers for GTX260 programs (no adobe or Apple - bonjour...)

Tried:

imputing my Billion router IP address over 169.XXX address and gateway....;
reset and renew ipconfig;
disabling LAN and reenabling;
disabling IPv6 (lost network there, didn't see it);
reinstalling from Intel generic drivers the LAN drivers;
deleting 0.0.0.0 (didn't find it);
tried killing starting the modem;
can't access modem through the IP address (but the modem, via the laptop, can see the LAN cable of the PC);
tried resetting the IPv4 and 6 via resets;
no firewalls or AV;
tried via safemode.

Only thing now is to try and reinstall WIndows 7.

If not change the Mobo.

Your opinion and and advice is actively thought!

Regards

You have not yet confirmed if this wired lan connection has proven to work ok on another PC. Such that we can be sure it is a W7 problem and not the router.

Also, please confirm that it did work in this setup, with this pc running XP?

Yes,
The router/modem works via LAN on the portable (taken the wireless out)
it worked before, when I had VISTA and the old motherboard .

Downloaded the older drivers. Installed.

Nothing. Still identifies the network as Unidentified Network - Work network.

Went into properties of the device, ran the Diagnostics and for connection it tells me that no DHCP server is present (in the router the DHCP is enabled though). Cable and Hardware diagnostics OK.

Good afternoon 2xg,

Yes I tried deleteting route 0.0.0.0, to no avail.
I hadn't installed any program so I didn't have Bonjour (itunes or something associate). I checked in any case and they were not there.

I reinstalled Windows and still nothing.

Any ideas

HALF WORKING!! False alarm........

Resolved partially the unidentified network issue. Ran as Administrator Prompt command:

netsh int ip reset C:\netsh.log.txt
netsh winsock reset

Internet works..... Slowly, at 10Mbps instead of 100Mbps. If I try and force it to 100 instead of leaving it in Auto Negotiation, it "crashes" and becomes Unidentified again, and I have to reset as above.

Updated Windows and.....

Rebooted and crashed again. Unidentified Nework........................

OK, so this is a new mobo... and the lan is integrated in the mobo.
The router/modem have not changed OR have been proven to still work with other pc's in the WIRED mode...

If all this is still true: please go into BIOS and tell/show us the settings it has for LAN?
PS... what make was your OLD board + what make is the laptop's board?

As I said earlier... this could be an issue with a router that is too old for some of the more modern drivers/lan HW...

OK.

The router works with the laptop (a new Toshiba Satellite L750D with an Atheros 8152/8158 PCI fast ethernet) BOTH wireless and LAN (using the same cable that doesn't work for the PC). Laptop has Windows 7 Home 32 and PC has Windows 7 Home 64bit.

The old Mobo I had was an ASUS P5Q Deluxe.

The current LAN settings in the Bios for the PC are:

Intel LAN = enabled
Intel PXE OPROM = diasbled (tried enabling, no difference).

I updated the drivers for the Router (not the newest in commerce, a Billion BiPAC 7404-VGP-M).

I updated Bios for the Mobo too (version 0606 x64, build 06/24/2011).

What else?

Regards

P.S. I attached a D-Link Usb wireless drive and internet works well, much better than the old LinkSys PCI adaptor. Wireless works in automatic IP settings.

Both Laptop and PC on wireless have no IPv6 connectivity....Matters?

I downloaded the latest drivers for the Intel Ethernet, no change.

Went into the support website for ASUS and found that I should have the Mobo checked...

http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P8Z68-V PRO&s=39&hashedid=JjlGHLJGJPFfGCFA&os=&no=980

Good luck to myself : will be obsolete probably by the time they finish....

Must be software problem though: after I did the netsh reset it worked, albeit for a short time, until I updated Windows....

If so it's a question of settings.

Any other idea Gents?
