Hi!! I have a Dell580 inspiron with windows 7 and I connected it to my RCA LCD HDTV with a new HDMI cable from the HDMI port in the pc to HDMI port on the tv but the sound only comes through the computers outside speakers. BTW the picture is fine on the tv. Can someone let me know if there is a solution to this issue. It will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I understand, that you want to use the tv a bit like a monitor. The problem might be that your computer speakers are still marked as the default sound output. This means that the tv is not the one that is chosen to the play the computer sounds. You should be able find the tv in control panel -> hardware & sound -> sound. Set your tv or hdmi whichever one shows up, as the default sound. This should work, if not please say so! hope it helps!

Hi!

Hi! There are no HDMI icons showing in that screen just the speakers. Do I need to take any specific action to get the HDMI icon to appear on that screen. Thanks!!!!

Does the graphics card on your pc have a hdmi output or are you using a dvi to hdmi adapter?

I'm using an HDMI cable connected to the back of the computer through the HDMI connecter port to the HDMI port in the back of the tv.

You could try going to the screen mrdemon showed and then right click on any of the devices and select "show disabled devices" maybe then it will show up?

Have you tried disabling the HDMI sound in Device Manager?

Which video card does it have, and do you have the latest driver for it installed? Dell has downloads for all three of; AMD , Nvidia and Intel, most of which can't be considered recent. The audio driver for the HDMI on the video is included with the video card driver. With it being a desktop you should be able to get the appropriate driver directly from the manufacturer instead of what Dell has to offer.

Also when in the Windows audio properties make sure to right click and put a check nest to both disabled and disconnected devices, if you haven't already.

P.S. mrdemon you don't have the driver for your onboard sound installed, it is using the generic default Windows driver.

@ stormy13

i tried to install the Soundmax Drivers and it would Crash every time, Im happy with the sound the generic gives out as I only have 2 speakers and a headphone jack......

back to the POST.

The GFX card is
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Audio Input for HDMI SPDIF / HDA,

Try looking for SPDIF and activate it. Maybe the card does not like Pass-through.

The correct Nvidia driver installed?

NVIDIA DRIVERS 280.26 WHQL

which will also install the necessary audio driver for the cards built in audio. The GT 220 was one of the first Nvidia cards to have an audio chip on the card for HDMI audio, where the previous 8xxx/9xxx series used a SPDIF connection to the sound card and did do passthrough.

mrdemon, that link only deals with how to get HDMI audio to work with XBMC in Linux, won't help any in Windows.
