Latest Version of Comodo Firewall Released

Same here with Sandboxie :) (all my browsers). This one is really a keeper (cheap too at >$40 lifetime license) :) Used Macrium Reflect way back 2007 but now I am using ATI Home 2011. Very nice strategy (and system backup gear) there and I agree system image restore is best way..no fuss solution whatsoever.

Cheers :)

At the same time I first install Comodo v3.8 I also discovered Sandboxie on the Comodo Forum and I became so confident with Sandboxie's level of protection that I no longer use Antivirus software.

Just the other day I installed a program with a lot of codecs and when I decided that I didn't want the program on my computer I did a quick Reflect re-image of my Intel 320 SSD from the LaCie Raid 0 esata HDD and a few minutes later I was ready to roll again with no trace of that program that was acting up.

COMODO Internet Security 5.8.202876.2065 BETA has been out early this month. If you are interested in testing it you can. I am using it in a W7 x32 system and compared to Online Armor Premium 5.1 Beta this is lighter and produces less pop-ups.

If you have a previous configuration of CIS exported somewhere you can just import your settings into it.

(Lifted from Comodo forums)
The most important features of this BETA are related to HIPS and AV. So the most valuable bugs are the REPRODUCIBLE bugs which are related to system stability issues, compatibility issues, and crashes.

New in 5.8.202801.2064:

NEW! Antivirus base size has been reduced drastically: This affects CIS performance and resource consumption as well
NEW! HIPS now has further improvements on 64 bit operating systems
NEW! Simple installer with 1-click installation experience
IMPROVED! Look and feel of the icons so that it is easier on the eyes
IMPROVED! CAV "Clean" button no longer deletes files but quarantines instead
FIXED! Firewall does not filter bluetooth adapters: pls reinstal CIS to see the effects
FIXED! Summary shows wrong menus whenclicked on state links

Known Issues:
This BETA still has problems in non-english languages.

If you have CIS running in your system and want to test this beta version it might be a good idea to do a clean install.

Can this be attributed to your using the Comodo Sandbox technology?

Well, it may very well be the case. I recently removed OA 5.1 Beta and tested CIS's and boy was I glad! The slowness I was seeing since the new OA beta version came out was uncomfortable. When I installed CIS beta all zippiness came back. It installed fast too as compared to CIS ver5.4 and ver5.5. Had a couple of FP's but all was submitted and cleared by Comodo Support.

If this will be the way for Comodo then I'll eagerly await ver6 with full virtualization.

Still testing though :D

Windows Firewall (default) is good for basic firewall protection. Of course a router with a good built-in hardware firewall would be much better.

I think MSE is great and use it along with Avast Antivirus. They work great together.

You should be fine though as long as you stay away from dodgy sites. ;)

But why use two antiviruses at the same time wont this cause any conflicts?

Thabs,

Back then when that was posted, they worked great together. However, they may work great together for some, and not so well for others now.

damien76- I just wanted to clarify the fact that v5.8.206694.2075 is a beta release for those who are less knowledgeable about CIS than you.

Oh..I must have misinformed you:confused:. I was just stating that I had just updated to Build 2075. Was not meant to be related to the earlier post (heads-up) of the new build being a Beta still. Sorry.

By the way, is there a tentative release date for the stable version...?

damien76- Thank you so much for all of the time you put into being a Comodo Beta tester! As far as I know there is no set release date for CIS v5.8. The much more exciting release should be CIS v6.0 which will feature the long awaited Comodo Sandbox Virtualization, but as a Beta tester you will be able to use and familiarize yourself with it long before us civilian Comodo users do...

Has Comodo firewall pop-ups really gone sane..? Have not used Comodo since version 4. By the way I'm using Outpost SS v7.5 without the AV and I'm new here.

I've been using the Comodo Firewall for almost 3 years and the only pop-ups I ever see is when a newly installed program tries to phone home. Once I deny it access to the internet I never see a pop-up concerning it again although the Comodo Firewall will make a record of any attempts it makes to access the internet which shows that it was blocked in the Firewall Log. You also have the option to turn off Firewall logging in which the Comodo Firewall will silently continue to block the program's access to the internet.

I too so rarely have my firewall pop up. Almost 100% while installing software. It is talkative at first, but once it learns, it's not intrusive at all. A Guy

Why is it that when I try to update my Avira personal version 10 to Avira Personal version 12 it says that I need to uninstall Comodo Firewall because of compatibility issues? I checked Comodo and there is no Comodo Antivirus module that is installed along with the firewall..
Avira version 10 does not have this kind of issue...
