Cannot install anything as no password field in User Account Control

Hi, have had this problem for a while now and any help would be greatly appreciated. Essentially I cannot install anything, as it requires User Account Control verification, but the password field for the admin pass does not show up, so the only option each time is to click 'No' and cancel the installation. I assume this is because there is no admin password set.

I tried for a long while previously, I have tried to enter using safe mode and try and disable UAC, yet when doing so the UAC actually pops up in sade mode without the pass field again. I have also tried using Offline NT Registor and Password Editor to create a new pass for the admin, yet no luck as the admin afterwards doesn't require a pass nor does the pass field in the UAC show.

I would really like to find a way to solve this, and am willing to do whatever anyone recommends. Thanks

Hello Archaic, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the administrator account doesn't have a password set, then you should be able to just log into the administrator account and create a password for it as usual. Without a password, you would just leave the password field blank and press enter.

Hi, thanks for the welcome and the response. Problem is - I cannot access the administrator account. I am on a standard account, and it is the only account that shows on the login screen.

If you "log out" or "switch user" from the standard account, it doesn't have an administrator account icon to select?

If not, do you remember what happened to the administrator account that was on it? For example, did you change it to be a standard account, etc....

No, there's just one standard account icon.
I haven't changed any of the settings, the installation was that way (pre-installed, as the item is a gift). From using Offline NT Regsitor I did see that an an admin account ('Adminstrator') is in existance. Another admin account by the name of the charity that donated the laptop also exists. But I cannot access either of them on the login page as they do not show up.

Have you tried to press control alt delete at the login prompt to see if it will allow you to enter another userid? (sometimes you have to press it a couple of times..)

At this point, the only thing I could recommend is to backup anything that you do not want to lose, and reinstall Windows 7.

I would have done this a long time ago, the problem however is that the computer came installed with Avira antivirus (paid) and Office 2010, and I would not have access to these when re-installing as I did not buy these nor have access to the activation keys for these.

You might see if the free ProduKey program may be able to reveal them for you. If so, you could just download those programs from their website and enter your key while installing them.
