I have youtube clips, pictures, and others in my external hard drive.

Does all of them get erased when I make win7 back up in this external hard drive?

They should not get erased. All of the backup programs I'm familiar with simply create a separate backup file. Just make sure you have enough free space on your external HD. (Before a backup begins it tells you approximately how large the file will be.)

Have you decided which backup program you're going to use? The most popular seem to be the Windows 7 backup / imaging utilty, Macrium free, Paragon free, or EaseUS ToDo free. If you're given the opportunity to create a separate companion System Repair Disk on a single CD, please do so. It could help you boot to system recovery options if you don't have a Windows installation disc, can't find your Windows installation disc, or can't access the recovery options provided by your computer manufacturer.

Is this a trick question?
If your pictures etc are standard files and not in shadow storage copy the answer is your files won't be automatically deleted by a backup attempt. I back up to HDDs with lots of other data on them.
If your ext HDD hasn't got enough space for a (Windows 7) backup Windows will spit back the appropriate error message.

Win 7 Backup and Restore works perfectly.

I use exclusively Win 7 Backup and Restore.

Important to know is the size of the external drive and info about your internal drive which is supplied by Disk Management.

Please read carefully this procedure and post the snip.

HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN
is the key with the wavy flag.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo (this pops up a menu) followed by X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field. This is very important, otherwise, needed info is not visible.

Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save

Post the snapshot:
Upload a File or Screenshot in Seven Forums
