Is there some shortkey for controlling the volume and the screen brightness (if it's not a laptop and such keys are not available on the keyboard)?

Also, what would be the Windows equivalent to 'All Windows', 'Dashboard', 'Application Widows' and 'Show Desktop'?

Sometimes I like to put multiple windows of a browser in different spaces so I can better navigate around them; how can you do this on Windows 7?

It's not cool that Windows lack the 'All Windows', 'Dashboard', 'Application Widows' functions... what do you do instead?

Show Desktp on the lower right corner. That will minimize and maximize everything. The windows key opens the start key. Are you using a Mac with windows on it?

I run OS X 10.7 Lion on my desktop so I know what you are talking about. I use MyHack 2 as my bootloader.

No I am not using a Mac with windows on it. I heard that to run Windows 7 fast, you have to use a Windows Laptop that is about 800 dollars. Is that true?

Is there some shortkey for controlling the volume and the screen brightness (if it's not a laptop and such keys are not available on the keyboard)?

My keyboard has a ring that controls volume, so that does it for me. The monitor has a button for brightness, but I set it once and forget about it. This is a desktop, so I can always reach the monitor with my hand, to me this is the same as tapping a key on the keyboard. Sorry if this bit is not helpful ;)

Also, what would be the Windows equivalent to 'All Windows', 'Dashboard', 'Application Widows' and 'Show Desktop'?

Right end of the taskbar is exactly the "Show Desktop". In addition there are two icons on the Quick Launch bar, on "Show Desktop" and another "Switch between Windows". Clicking on it you'd get a 3D view of all open windows, you can toggle and choose the one you want. I'm sure there is a keyboard shortcut for this as well, but personally I never bothered to remember them. The taskbar itself tells you everything about open windows anyway.

Don't know what the Dashboard is, but by the sound of it, it's got to be similar to the Task Manager - that gives you all information about running tasks and resources used. Right-click on the taskbar -> Start Task Manager.

Sometimes I like to put multiple windows of a browser in different spaces so I can better navigate around them; how can you do this on Windows 7?

This is not an OS question per se, but ... If you use Firefox, you can open new pages in new windows instead of new tabs, there is always a "New Window" button on the toolbar. Pretty sure IE can do the same. Never used any other browser, but I think they can do that as well. Once your pages are in separate Windows, you can arrange them around the desktop as you wish.

Who ever was trying to tell you that they were most likey trying to scam you into buying a new computer. This is not true and who ever told you that should not be someone that you talk to about computer advice. It is people like that who make the everyday IT guy look bad.

No he was just a computer fixer. He said that I should just run BootCamp on my MBP, it runs really fast, but if I bought a PC I would have to buy a real high end like 800 dollars to run it fast. Which I thought was kind of hard to believe.

I don't want to sound snobbish, but I don't think $800 buys you a "high end" PC. I guess just a real high end processor would cost you more than that.

I suppose a sensible statement is that if you want to have a responsive system you have to have something more than the minimum requirements published by Microsoft. This means that if you buy a netbook, then you should not expect a fast system, although others may disagree - personally I've never looked at netbooks.

That said, a decent PC typically costs less than a comparable Mac, so using Windows 7 is by no means exclusive.

Wow, thank you for this. I just noticed that Windows has something very convenient that Mac doesn't: Move the focused Window and Resize the focused Window shortkeys.

I don't know how to do this on a Macbook though. I'm pressing option space and S and the arrow keys to resize but it's not doing anything.

It depends what you mean by "fast". If you dont care about games, a 2Ghz dual core and 3-4GB of RAM is more than sufficient for most taks, in fact it's what I'm running right now. This machine cost me about £200 (about US$320) including a RAM upgrade and runs Windows 7 fine.

As for $800 buying you a top of the line PC. It depends. I personally am about to build myself a machine for £370 (about US$600) and I wouldn't exactly call it stone age as it has a 2nd Gen i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Obviously I know that it may be different in the US, but certainly $800 for a top of the line PC seems reasonable to me (if you build it yourself)
