Homegroup using "share with"; can you add a specific user from...

... another computer? "Share with" seems to recognize only local users. Is using "credentials" the key? If so I would need guidance here.

I want to share my documents with myself only on my other computers. What is the best way to achieve this. Homegroup or something else?

Have a read of those and see if you still have more questions.

But the bottom line is, what you want to do is easily achievable and can be set up securely so that only you can access your stuff from other computers.

I wish it was so simple; It doesn't work for me.

I have all 3 computer linked with the same homegroup password. All of them have an user account "Saintor"

In the Homegroup setting, "Share all libraries and printers" is selected.

I have in my libraries various directories, all of them are "share with" specific people ("Saintor").

I still can't access libraries from another computer.

Best thing is not to use Homegroup, just share the folders you want the old fashion way, as per what Daryl said.

The problem is about security; it is everyone or nothing. I can not select a specific computer/user.

Mate, if you want security Homegroup is the wrong path i recon. Doing it the old fashion way you can decide exactly who can access what.

How to create a Homegroup and allow a more secure setup!

My issue was I wanted to continue using Homegroup but limit specific folders/files, say in My Documents, other users where allowed to see or not see.

1. Create a Homegroup and join as usual.
2. Create an account on each system for each user you want to allow access.
3. Via Control Panel

• Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
  1. Click the chevron to expand the Home or Work network profile.
  2. Under HomeGroup connections, click Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers, and then click Save changes.

You will be required to log off/log on. But that's it. You have the HomeGroup and can specify which users have access to the folders. The key though to initially view the files via the home group you will have to access the computer via Network and enter the log-in credentials to view what you have access to.

This is what I was getting to in post #2... but it wasnt a knock against Homegroup as some others here stated!
