Anybody that got burned by Windows 7 messing with your mp3's can try this...

A possible solution to the MP3 file corruption issue

If some of your MP3 files have already been affected, you might be able to restore the corrupted MP3 files to their pre-edit status. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click a corrupted MP3 file, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Previous Version tab, select an earlier version in the File Versions list, and then click Restore. If multiple edits were performed, you may have to revert to the oldest version that is available.

I think that it would effect any that were updated by media player and not just the ones being played.

will not *fix* the MP3s already broken - hence Grim's post to *fix* already broken MP3s.

you have to specify that VSS has to be enabled pmcgarr (before the screwup of course...)....

Correct - it is supposed to be on by default, but may not actually be on, especially if you use separate partitions / drives to store media, like I do....

What is VSS? I was jut putting this out there because most of us knew about the updata, but I didn't think everybody knew there was a chance of saving any of the files. Just trying to be helpful; don't even have this problem myself.

agreed it won't...maybe some should READ BEFORE they install something that's beta....as in the following that was available:

before installing the Beta, please read the Release Notes. In particular, review the MP3 files and Windows Media Center notes and install the related updates before using the Beta. IMO

well for anyone who didnt update. if you have updates on, it was released by word of Windows Update
