Hi,

I feel like a regular on here with the amount that goes wrong with my pc, but anyway. I've been getting random computer crashes where everything freezes and the audio speakers emit a very loud buzzing noise and the only way i can carry on is if i hit the restart button..

Now originally i thought this was an overheating problem but now I'm not convinced. I just started it up after the crash and got a bios message of DDr3 unganged mode and asking to go into the bios settings to run setup ?

Please help.. kinda getting annoying now

It sounds (no pun intended) like a sound issue.

You could remove your sound card, and then run your computer to see if the problem has disappeared. Does the computer crash if you disconnect your speakers?

At the same time as you've got your box open you might want to check the sound and graphics cards for signs of overheating and checking the power supply wouldn't hurt.

Going into the BIOS to check your voltage and temperature settings won't hurt either.

At the very worst, you might have a problem with the motherboard too.

Okay, I don't know if I have a sound card :S (I know right) I'm using a asus M5a78L so I'm not sure.. the audio actually goes through the green little plug on the back of the pc, its a surround sound system too.. so if I take that out I won't have any sound at all?

I've checked temperatures and I think they're fine, I'll post pictures of both the core temp values as well as HWinfo

Temperatures seem OK.

Check that the speaker cord is pushed home fully.

Check in Device Manager for anything untoward.

Check your sound settings under Hardware and Sound in your Control Panel.

There's a possibility you may be having problems with your power supply. Do you know of anyone who can check it out for you?

Well it was in the repair shop the other week to have it fitted along with the CPU fan.. so unless they did something strange I'm not sure, I do however have a second spare power supply unit but that's only 550w and I'm not sure if that's high enough for my specs

strange enough though after disconnecting my surround sound and just using a usb headset for sound it hasn't crashed once :s

In that case it would seem the problem lies with your sound setup.

Are you using onboard sound or a dedicated sound card?

As for your power supply, using a 550w PSU in place of a 800w PSU is asking for trouble unless most of your hardware is disconnected.

ermm onboard i'm guessing, I've never seen a dedicated sound card that is. And yeah I don't think the older PSU will power all my pc... I'm not sure what to do about sound, I can't listen through headset 24/7 lol

Check your motherboard specifications to see what spare slots you have, and then install a dedicated sound card - something like a Creative Soundblaster Audigy would be fine.

well I'll keep it running to find out if it 100% is a sound problem because I'm a student and don't really have the money for extra bits and bobs... hoping that it is a sound problem rather than anything else though.

Does anyone know the max temp for the AMD cpu ? It's just I stream games for money and sometimes it can hit 70 odd degrees C

Depends which one it is, have a look here: What temperature should my processor be running at?

If you can't afford a sound card just yet, keep an eye out for any friends who might have one spare and check out the local flea markets - you'll be amazed what you can pick up - hardware that is, not fleas! ;)
