Sound drops during game play

As the title says, my sound drops whenever I play a game on my PC, so I turn the volume up & 20 mins later it blasts out because the sound has reset or is back to its normal level.
This seems to happen is every game, I use a Realtek Onboard HD as my sound but I also went and bought a 7.1 Soundcard (Speedlink Stage 7.1) and it did the same issue, I then installed the Speedlink into my wifes other quad core PC & it is working fine, not a single issue or drop.
I have ever asked some tech guys, who said it may be my AV or programs like "Steam" running in the background, but the wife uses "Steam" also with zero effects, we both use the same AV/security (COMODO Internet Security), and again she has no problems.
I use Cambridge soundworks 5.1 speakers as does the missus.

Is it my new i7 (2600k)? I know there was problems with Intel.

Edit: I ran HwinInfo that I found here, and I have 2 drivers under "Audio", could this be my problem?

No problems with intel that I've heard of that haven't been fixed.

No, nvidia is the audio for your HDMI. From the GPU to the monitor.

It could be a broken jack or wire. Try plugging different speakers into your computer and then try plugging your speakers into a different audio source, if you can

If you think you can, you can look up drivers for both of those devices and make sure you have the most up to date ones. Your motherboard will require all its updates, as well as you video card, and your sound card. But before all this, run windows update to see if there is any important updates you need and any "optional" compatability updates or updates to the windows system. You never know, it could help

Could be communications doing it thinking your games are cancelling out some communication software you have? Try setting communication to this option!: http://i.cubeupload.com/yOabhc.png

Gaming can be very intensive for a PC and especially a laptop. Maybe it's overheating and causing it?

Also, try setting the game to lower settings (especially audio) to see if this corrects it. This only happens in the game?

Yes, Empire total war, Rift & Bloodbowl to name a few I've had this with.

The sounds are fine 1 minute, then just drop really low, then back up again after a period (of course by then I've turned up the volume & end up blasted by it).

I use a desktop PC, not a laptop. I use the Zotac Firestorm monitor to check card temps etc., idle is about 37c high, during play about 76c.

The *Right click speaker in tray, go to "playback" and click "communication" then "do nothing."* trick seems to be working so far, I do more playing/testing over the weekend.

be careful with those temps, they will wear that card down faster. 60C is perfect, 65C is fine, 70C is getting a little high, 75C Id worry that its not cooling down. It could be alright, but its still very hot

Thanks all, it seems to be ok after I took your advice. I'll have to look into getting more fans then, if I'm running abit hot.
