Discuss Skyrim

I don't know why people are having trouble with the sound, the sound is the best I've ever experienced, especially in full 7.1, the mapping is perfect and the dialogue is spot on. I guess it's more optimised for surround sound.

See ya Lydia. She died during a Dragon fight.

Serves her right for getting glitch stuck somewhere yet again, and then 'appearing' right into the line of fire.

Hmmmm..... she hasn't died on me yet; in fact I thought she was invincible

Apparently if you accidentally hit her during a fight (when she's close to 'dying'), that's her death knell. NPC vs NPC - she gets back up. PC vs NPC, she don't.

I had so many sparks and flames/shouts going on I probably wiped her out

And I've had no issues with sound either. No major bugs encountered yet tbh. Then again I'm far behind in gameplay time by comparison and don't play for 'that long' at a stretch so I'm sure the treats are still in store...

And that's the problem itself. I only have 2 speakers with 1 subwoofer, I don't have surround sound.

Yeah that'll probably do it :D

She does tend to get in your way though. I've also accidentally hit helpers, only to then be attacked by them. That makes me backup to a previous save less I kill my attacker :o

The game is rife with bugs, but nowhere near the show stoppers of New Vegas. And though I too have no sound issues, the net is full of people who do

Yeah the game actually has some content to it with lots of sides quest so it is time consuming :)

No, I think it's possible for an NPC to kill her too. One time, I fast traveled the hell out of a location after a dungeon, and she wasn't with me. I went and got married, and on the wedding day her corpse was just inside the church. I guess nobody liked dead people at a wedding, so I got yelled at by all the people there (including the person I was going to marry and the priest). :(

After I became leader of the "companions" You get to have about 8 more people as followers, so your not stuck with Lidia or anyone you have to pay for in the taverns. (plus,if you join the companions and do all there quests, you get some very cool surprises).

Also I had this dog as a follower for a while, but he can't carry anything for me, and barks at every living thing, so why have one...unless the dog could be like one of those in Dragon age, or maybe a wolf...:D

She does tend to get in your way though. I've also accidentally hit helpers, only to then be attacked by them. That makes me backup to a previous save less I kill my attacker :o

That was why I let her go. One too many stupid moves. Between running into the line of fire and ruining a good sneak, her cons outweighed her pros.

The game is rife with bugs, but nowhere near the show stoppers of New Vegas.

That could also be part of my 'luck'. I didn't encounter the real show stopper Vegas bugs until later because I was always off doing side quests. It was only when I went back to the main quest/areas that I noticed how bloody woeful some parts were.

Same with Skyrim. I don't think I've been to the 'crashy' areas yet...

lol, I heard about her corpse appearing at weddings, or she'll be lying dead inside a home.

Apparently she can also die from falls. Glitch deaths?

Either way she's still a nuisance in death as she was in life :p

I'm fairly sure you're right about this. It seems to have some type of "Doppler effect" going on in that the sounds and voices seem to move around depending on how your character is positioned (more to the left if the character is standing to the left and vice versa), if you're in the 1st or 3rd person, and even if 'you' are standing close or far away from the NPC or source of the sound affects. I suppose it would be cool... however I'm using a 300-Watt JVC Stereo for everything over an AUX connection through my 23" Syncmaster. Everything else on the PC and TV feeds sound great... just not this game. Kind of sucks you can't tell the game what type of sound system you're on so it can dish out the audio accordingly (I believe most games auto-detect this but not Skyrim it would appear). I have to put the PC volume and game volume all the way up, and then turn the head unit up to about 15 (max is 30) to hear it as well as the rest of my games (and because of all the juice flowing through the amplifier at that volume, there is an electrical hum - even though I installed a THX certified AUX to 3.5mm jack cable, which is supposed to stop that).

Again... patch please! LOL

I've been using the 4Gb.exe mod from Nexus. It's gotten rid of the CTD problem. I'm occasionally getting a BSOD crash though. Only when I enter the blue palace in Solitude, oddly enough. And only 1 out of about 20 times.

I have noticed that the sound is a little on the quiet side, but I don't think that's a huge problem.. that's what the volume knob on the speakers are for. I have to goose my speakers up about 20% from where they normally are for regular Web and Movie viewing.

And here's another potentially major hiccup with this game I've just come across. The grayed-out "shouts" you need to spend dragon souls on to unlock? Not letting me, despite having killed five chance dragons so far. Just keeps saying I need them to unlock those shouts "OK". And yep, this is after having killed the one for Whiterun and doing the quest with the Graybeards to get the first two complete shouts. Kind of sucks... don't know what the problem is, on the first game I started (Nord) this worked fine... just not on my Khajiit game. Hmmm.

I = :drool:

Gromit1710:  BSODs? No, no, no, no, no thanks! I'll stick with the unpatched game and it's CTD's until a better solution than that Nexus thing comes along, if it's prompting BSODs (haven't experienced one of those off of Skyrim itself yet thankfully)!
