Discuss Skyrim

I've got tons of saves but I'm not about to roll back to an ealier one aound the time of completing the main quest to see if this is the case as I've done tons of stuff since then. BTW I haven't even seen the game ending credits yet so..... I'm obviously not finished with the game

I'll figure it out I suppose :)

LOL, I said the same thing when I had discovered it with DS. And I didnt go back either.

This may not be same thing thats happening, but what it looks like anyway. If so, its just a wierd thing where sometimes it doesnt trigger and the only way to get it is replay that section.

But hopefully, if that is the case they fix it.

Well I'm hoping that its just a case of not finishing the game, as opposed to the main quest. I know I still have a few other things to do, though not associated with the main quest. I think once those are done, then the entire game is done.

Anyway I found this (contins spoilers material) - Achievement Guide and Road Map - Xbox360Achievements.org

I got bored of it, so restarted a new character, and spent like an hour on just creating, and now i do things differently, i take each city at a time, and talk to everyone and finish all of the little small quest, i just finished the bards college, thos who never done it, you have to try it, you get very interesting rewards. Also, since i didnt even start a main quest yet, there are no dragons trying to kill me every 5 seconds.

Thanks for that tip Alsis, I did start to get a bit bored of the game after a while. I suppose because it's such a huge open-world game and doesn't follow a traditional linear structure, I started to follow a little overwhelmed by the sheer scale of it. I've since bought the official strategy guide which has helped me focus my character a lot more and give me more of an idea what to do next. I have looked at the quest section of the guide in terms of finding out how to complete them, more just to see a suggested order of completion.

For example, my character is a Nord warrior and so it suggested I complete most of the first act earlier rather than later as I would receive special rewards which would help me later in the game. It also gave me a suggested skills path to pursue for a purely melee-orientated character.

Unfortunately, I'd already been adventuring up to level 10 and spent most of my skill points on skills I rarely use (because of the lack of focus in the game) and so I've been debating whether to start anew or not.

I'm a little wary of joining specific guilds/colleges in the game as I don't want to tie myself down to that and then have massive repercussions later on. But the idea of taking things one city at a time does sound like a good idea.

No offense, but to me a strategy guide ruins the experience of a game like this.

Simply because venturing into the unknown making mistakes, discovery, and surprises are what make it interesting.
The whole, OH ... I should have done this .. Or .. "Bah .. I wish I wouldnt have said that to so and so ..."

It makes future replays a bit more interesting as well.

But, I suppose what some of us find fun others do not. And theres nothing wrong with that.

I can see your point WM, but I have loads of games (still quite a few unplayed) and so I don't have too much time to spend pouring hours into a game that I am getting frustrated or bored with. I know the nature of a game like Skyrim is that you are left to your own devices and encouraged to go explore and do whatever you want but for me this results in 80% of my time spent walking/riding to places. That is a big pet-hate of mine with RPG's, the incessant travelling which takes up far too much of the game.

I love RPG games and generally get into the story and enjoy collecting items, improving weapons and getting into some good battles and this is why I bought Skyrim. I got the strategy guide mainly so I could focus my character more rather than just picking a load of skills based on what I thought I might use or what sounds interesting, only to find I either never use them or I have my skill points spread to thinly over a wide area.

I still get to explore and make mistakes and learn from them (as I said, I don't read how to do the quests). It's just handy to quickly look at it instead of getting lost in the wilderness and spending 2 hours (in real time) walking round trying to find something only to get distracted from my objective by another little cave/dungeon. I prefer to have some order and rigidity. Plus it's doubtful I'll ever play this game on a second or third run through as I probably won't even complete it the first time (although I suppose it's a tough game to "complete" as there's so much you can do without ever touching the quests).

I suppose but it's much easier with the horse or fast travel feature (which was included in fallout) and helps you get to places fast, but it's just much easier to pay the bloke at any stables to take you to a particular location and travel from there, and you'd be surprised the benefits of travelling between places, you probably get more goodies and trinkets from travelling, compared to the actual mission you're going to do.

anywhooo.

I've decided that I want to experience Skyrim in all it's marvellous glory and spent £150 on a new graphics card, what a difference! everything looks cleaner and the lighting effects are nothing less than spectacular, i want to start again with my new graphical glory, but i'm going to hold off. being level 74 and all.

i just finished the bards college, thos who never done it, you have to try it, you get very interesting rewards. Also, since i didnt even start a main quest yet, there are no dragons trying to kill me every 5 seconds.

The Bard's college is nice.... but the Mage college is better. BTW you "started the main quest" when you started the game ;)

For example, my character is a Nord warrior and so it suggested I complete most of the first act earlier rather than later as I would receive special rewards which would help me later in the game. It also gave me a suggested skills path to pursue for a purely melee-orientated character.

I see no problem with using a strategy guide in games such as these because of the sheer volume of options you have. In this instance they can be very valuable in focusing your character.

With that said, I'm not using one now, but I definitely used one for Dragon Age: Origins, and partially for Fallout New Vegas.

I'm a little wary of joining specific guilds/colleges in the game as I don't want to tie myself down to that and then have massive repercussions later on. But the idea of taking things one city at a time does sound like a good idea.

I was kind of like that - Haven't done the thieves guild yet, and just now did the companions quest, but I will say that if you fancy magic (I do) the mage's college is invaluable.

Forxample,by talking to the inn keepers about jobs and rumours gives you LOTS of new places and adventures! And i didnt do them in previous play

This is the reason it's taking me so long to finish the game ;)

Oh and someone mentioned skill points - My advice is to try and keep at least 1 in waiting till you figure out what area(s) you need/use and go from there. I did this with Dragon Age and it helped a lot in developing my character’s strength.

With regards to fast travel or riding/walking: I use a combination of both – I like to explore a lot so I’ll do a lot of walking or riding, at other times, I’ll fast travel to locations I’ve been to countless numbers of times, or I’ll fast travel near a location I haven’t found then explore from there.

I want to "destroy" few armors and weapons and take the powers from them.

Do you remember in which areas i can find the "magic" table? (i cant remember the name) :o

Theres one in Whiterun .. in Dragons Reach, in the Mages room.

What he she said, plus many other places, including caves and other dwelling. Opps, sorry

And true sygnus if you wanna be technical i geuss i did start the main quist lol.:D

And i found some gloves that boosts your unarmer brawling skills, at first i thought it was stupid, but i seem to get into ALLOT of fist brawls all over skyrim.

There's nothing "technical" about it, it's the opening of the main quest, but I get your point ;)

I found those gloves, haven't used them, just put them in my storage chest. I've found my bare knuckles work just just fine when I "have to" use them :D
