Solved Machine not going to sleep properly

You should go back as far as when Sleep was last working properly.

Do your Updates normally or in smaller groups, then test Sleep after each group. If it is affected, Restore before updates and install them singly until you find problem Update.

Have you tried other Display drivers? Sleep issues are almost always caused by Display driver. Check if one of your Updates since Reinstall was Display driver and roll it back.
Or if the Display Driver tab in Device Manager has Roll back driver highlighted, try it anyway. Then look for a newer or different driver on Support Downloads webpage for your card.

I found out what the USB devices are! However, I can't find drivers for them.

In my set up I am using 2 X 23" Apple Cinema Displays. Hey, I had 'em when I switched. Anyhow, they have powered USB ports on the back of them. Through trial and error and unplugging one device at a time, I determined that those are the missing drivers. But, I can't for the life of me figure out where to acquire said drivers. When I plug them in I get the message that Windows can't find them. I can't seem to find them anywhere on Apple's site either. They worked before the clean install, now they don't. The really freaky thing is, all the devices plugged into the "hubs" on the back of the monitors work fine and are recognized in the device manager.

• Anyhow, my going to sleep problem seems to have resolved due to updating drivers.

• My waking from sleep Pandora alarm? Gawd, this is embarrassing. Funny thing the difference between 3:00 am and 3:00 pm
• The above mentioned Apple USB devices don't appear to really be causing any problems so, I'm not going to worry about them. They are a topic for a different thread anyhow.

I'm gonna go do some other stuff for awhile...

Then this should be as simple as not plugging-in those display USB connections. Do you HAVE TO have them??? :huh:

Yeah, I need them. I have a bunch of periferals plugged into them. Thing is, all the devices that are plugged in there work fine and show up in devices and printers as they should. I'm not all that worried about if evrythig is working.

I am having the exact same problem. I don't recall changing anything to cause it. Now here is the crazy thing. I had the exact same problem a year or more ago and by surfing the web I found the solution. But can I remember exactly how I fixed it now? Of course not ...........duhhh. All I can recall is that in Power Options you go into "change advanced power settings", click on one of the many + signs that presents you with more options and change one or two things. But I can't remember what to change and I have tried several things. Anyone got any ideas?

Seems like "USB selective suspend" must be Disabled on a couple of my computers.

You should get free iDailyDiary and keep a log of everything you do-or-change on your computer i.e. installs, settings, uninstalls, problems/solutions, etc. An added bonus is if you make image backups of your hdd you have a diary of all changes mades between backups.

Easiest is to System Restore to a point where you know sleep worked, then save a backup image so you have it forever.

As well as here: troubleshooting steps, in particular combing the logs for clues and using System Resources in WIn7, running a Clean boot.

Regarding the trace idea (last resort indeed) I wonder about something:

Once the trace is complete, you will find a large .ETL file and a log file in C:\Reboot_Trace.

Is this a file that is readable/understandable for mortals using perhaps Event Viewer? I did one of those fancy traces using XP once and could not interpret the results.

For sure if there is anything that "completely sux" about W7 it is its Power Management and the (inadequate) tools we have to troubleshoot problems. At least, I have never found any of the powercfg options to be helpful to me--its always been "try, try again" changing all settings in Power Options and Driver Powermanagement checkboxes...

It can't hurt to look at it though, as some things are frighteningly obvious when you see it in graph form even without much knowledge .
