How to overclock Phenom II x4 970

I changed the multiplier from 17.5 to 18.5 on the BIOS but CPUZ still shows 3500MHz as its Core Speed. I disabled the Cool & Quiet on the BIOS but to no avail. I am seeing the following message during the POST:

The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking.
The last settings in BIOS setup may not coincide with current H/W states.

The Windows boots up fine even the above is ignored.

Is there anything else I need to change?

before trying to overclock your system you should do some reading up on it. keep reading till you have a good understanding of what your doing and what settings do what and so on. there is alot of overclocking fourms out
there. look for info on your motherboard and cpu and read read read. thats the best way to start overclocking .

Most of boards have auto OC. I suggest you use that.

Auto OC tends to throw a higher vCore than needed, which in terms makes unnecessary heat.

Most 955/965/970 should get to 4.0 at around 1.45v. I'm running 4.5 on my own 955 and I'm using 200x22.5 with 1.5vCore.

+1 I think manual overclocking is still preferable. And reading up before doing it is definitely recommended. Just pushing a button, with no idea what it is doing is not advised. A Guy

There does not seem to be much to do except adjusting the multiplier and the Vcor. The stock speed is 3500MHz but I can not raise it to even 3600MHz. This is hardly overclocking but I tried raising Vcor from the stock 1.375V to 1.400V. I wonder if the error message noted on my original post is indicative of that there is something wrong with the CPU or the mobo.

Just popped my 965 to 4.2. Gained 2 degrees for the 1.425 volt push and 21x, no changes with bus or HT. So far so good.

1.425 is supossedly max v core for the 965 BE chip in overclocking 4.2 huh are you trying to get me to compete lmao j/k

a extra 200mhz isn't worth frying my chip over

I told you before i was pushing 1.416- 1.5 is too much i think but 4.5 Ghz is impressive

booted up just fine as well maybe the new Mainboard bios made it possible

No competition intended......well maybe a little. lol Just watching temps and performance and all good so far but really I likely will back it down to 4.1 or 4.0 but it's fun (I hope) to see how the system performs. Have you had any luck pushing the bus, etc?

I used to fiddle with the bus but always BSOD

So i tryed the multiplyer and got better results anything over 225 or 230 bsod
