You have a 'generic' Trojan showing --> %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\hretywa.dll

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.<--Important
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Click on this link Here to see a list of programs that should be disabled.
The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
Next: Disconnect from the internet. If you are on Cable or DSL, unplug your computer from the modem.
Next: Please disable all onboard security programs (all running with back ground protection) as it may hinder the scanner from working.
This includes Antivirus, Firewall, and any Spyware scanners that run in the background.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Please be patient while the scan runs, at times it may appear to stall.
When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
After rebooting ensure your Security applications have been re-enabled.

In your next reply post:
ComboFix.txt
New HJT log taken after the above scan has run

***A guide and tutorial on "How to use Combofix" can be found here:
A guide and tutorial on using ComboFix

IF CF won't run:
During the download, rename Combofix.exe to sVchost.exe

i then removed the ask toolbar uninstalled it and removed it from the program files folder.
i unhid the files an folders and file extensions and protected files.
i then searched C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\hretywa.dll
the hertywa.dll was not there i also did a search for it in the search tab its not found in the system.
so far ive not had any redirects in search and no reboots yet like i said it would reboot once every 3 days or so.

@ Jacee
I really admire all the trouble and work you go through; it's above and beyond the call of duty.
There is question though that i have often wanted to ask when looking at the postings in the security section.
Please don't lynch me. So here it goes.
Considering all the steps you have to go through to get the problem fixed (and not only here) wouldn't it be a lot easier/faster to wipe off everything from the HD, clean it and then reinstall it all from a backup made on an external harddisk? (everyone should actually have one made at regular intervals).
Sometimes i see instructions to remove a malware and then the answer comes back that it did not solve the problem (for whatever reason) and something different is suggested which is then tried.
Would a complete reinstall (with all extra programs included) be sufficient to get rid of even the most obnoxious malware? And wouldn't that be preferable to "fiddling around" by both sides to get the malware exterminated if it involves a complicated operation?
Maybe i should not ask the question here. A new thread instead?

In a perfect setting, that would definitely be the way to go. ;)

Not everyone who owns a computer does this, so there are many of us who have been trained (and are training others) to help get rid of the crippling malware. It doesn't always go as planned, especially with rootkits (which I loath!), but until I find out that there is a rootkit involved, I will continue with my help.

Maybe the OS should have an addition that makes it inescapable to make an external, complete backup. The computers would then have to be sold with an appropriate external storage device (with directions how to use it). Costs? Right, but the costs of all these breakdowns is probably higher in the long run. It was the same story long ago with Nader's campaign for seatbelts (and crash zones). Sure they cost extra money but the savings in health care far outweigh the costs of the belts. It has even become law in most countries to wear them, not just have them in the car. And in some cars you can't even get around putting them on. Any talk about personal freedom is, in this case, nonsense and a misuse of terms.
Once again i am not criticizing help obtained here and elsewhere. But i think there would not be enough people like you if everyone who gets a malware would ask for help on the help forums. And it will only get worse.
