Solved Windows 7 Pro will not format or install on 600gb vraptor or 128gb SSD

I just built the machine in my specs but my Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit will not install at all on my SSD or 600gb vraptor. They are recognized in the bios but when the installer starts it wont let me install at all on the SSD.


It sees it but says the OS cannot be installed on it. It's either that or some type of registry file error. For the VRaptor, it won't even format it. I've tried both copies of my 7 DvDs, tried it from USB, and even tried Vista x64 to no avail. I've updated the Bios too. I think it's a driver issue, but it won't recognize the sata drivers on the mobo disk.

The baffling part to me is that I plugged in the old 300gb VRaptor with 7 already installed and it booted just fine. I then plugged in the 600gb drive and it immediately recognized it and formatted it. I put the SSD in a small external case and plugged it in via usb to my laptop and it was recognized it and I was able to format it as well.

Unplug the HD, set BIOS to defaults, then set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

If that fails, try Raptor by itself but wipe it first: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Remove all but 2gb RAM to try install. Test HD"s and RAM: HD Diagnostic
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Post back exact error or failure message.

Did you burn the DVD's yourself? Where did you get the ISO? Confirm it ro download another, burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Will try again. When I tried the first time the Bios was set at defaults with AHCI enabled

I've ran diskpart several times on both drives and was getting partition error messages the last time I did it.

1 Disk is an OEM Copy, the other is a copy that the university computer shop made to sell... I made the ISO from this disk

What are the exact error messages you got when cleaning the drive, and which one. We don't just ignore these things.

Test the suspect drive with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check.

Switching back to AHCI and just having the SSD plugged in worked. I plugged it into the 3gb/s over the 6gb/s sata port and everyhing installed. On another note, the most common error I got was "Failed to format the selected partition. [Error: 0x80070057]." I wish I would have wrote them down as far as .sys files but they were different each time. The Memory checked out ok too.
