Simple question, I want to buy it off amazon but don't want to waste the $50.00 US dollars if it isn't going to work. I ask this because I heard from somewhere since Battle for middle earth 2 is a windows XP game it wont run properly on windows 7 format. A word of caution, i'm not really computer/windows 7 savvy so big terms wont help me. Thank you for your consideration.

I have The Battle for Middle-Earth II and it worked fine on my old PC that had Windows XP. Now I want to play it again but have since switched computers and it uses Windows 7. It installs fine but when I got to play it, regardless if I let it open through the disc or icon, it tells me there is an issue and closes the game.

Most of the fixes I have found are for Windows Vista. I did see one that said a large monitor is an issue, which I have, but the fix was for Windows Vista so the file names didn't match up to what I have. Completely at a lose and really bummed b/c this is an awesome game. :cry:

Hi,

I was frustrated for a while today trying to get BFME II to work in win7 64bit, and finally got my problem fixed, so I thought I'd post it(this was the first hit on google.) There are a lot of recommendations out there to copy an options.ini file, but I was having a tough time getting this exactly right. For some reason the installer wouldn't create the directory that file resided in. So once I created it it worked just fine. basically you need to create the:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files

directory then put the options.ini file into that directory. You can download an options.ini file here:

Windows 7 64-bit Battle for Middle-Earth fix 1 Mod Download, Lord of the Rings Mods

Or just create one with these contents:

AudioLOD = High
FlashTutorial = 0
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
Resolution = 1024 768
StaticGameLOD = High
TimesInGame = 8

That worked for me. Hopefully it will save someone a little headache. By the way you may need to enable hidden files in control panel under appearance and personalization to be able to see those folders.

Good Luck

PS. You can also get wide sccreen to work by putting a widescreen resolution into that file. So mine is

AudioLOD = High
FlashTutorial = 0
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
Resolution = 1920 1080
StaticGameLOD = High
TimesInGame = 8

but only do that if you have a 1080p capable vidcard/monitor.

i used same to get it to work on mine, windows 7 ultimate x64 :-) works a charm, although i did have to fiddle the intel graphics settings to scale the image for the widescreen res to work (1366 x 768) otherwise it stretches the display

Same for me, although my game reported that I didn't have the correct version of DirectX until I made that change. I am on a widescreen monitor (1920x1080) so that was the resolution I set the game to. I also noticed that the in-game settings menu has the resolution setting disabled, but overall this was a very effective and quick fix, it took maybe 3 minutes.

I know it has been dormant but this did not work for me, is there any other fixes?
