Yeah it might have a good battery life ... but so has my smart phone (in the end the iPad is an iPhone that can't make calls)

So there may be loads of apps ... Android are creating 2 free apps to every app that apple produce (plus the Android ver. are usually better)

iproducts need iTunes ... I don't .... I've never come across such a piece of crap software that you will never own and never have control over

With the exception of the headphone slot, you ain’t gonna find any standard connectors on the iPad 2. That means no microSD, no microUSB and no microHDMI. You can get adapters that work with the proprietary connector at the bottom. But you’ll have to fork over more extra dough to Apple, which my cheap Android-using half finds to be a bummer.

Lets not even go down the FLASH route as we know this is a no brainier

While it’s easy to download movies into the iPad 2, folks who use video formats such as AVI or MKV will need to convert their files — something my Android-using half doesn’t need to do.

While it’s nice to have 2 cameras and all, they are kinda crappy, even by mobile device standards.

Forget 4G :p

The iPAD II has many documented issues with Wi-Fi dropping off intermittently, which doesn't happen with most other Wi-Fi devices.

And last but not least ... the price.

You could realistically purchase 2 fairly descent spec PC laptops (with mobile broadband that works) for the price of 1 ipad II .... I'd like your thoughts .... I hate the bloody things but that's just my opinion ;)

I don't own any tablet but I agree Itunes is not the best software. I know you guys overseas hate Ianything more than us in the states. I personally don't like the Iphone either. I use Droid. To me if you're a power user and need to customize and take control of your device Apple is not the way to go. But you can't beat some of it's simplicity. I do use an Ipod touch for my car though. That's about it. If I hadn't gotten it as a gift I probably would have just updated my stereo and used a large USB stick to hold my songs. But frankly between the Ipad and other Tablets it just boils down to what you want it to do and what you typically use it for.

The only two reasons I would never own one are price, and software.

I played with my cousins iPad for a bit. It was nice, fast and probably does what he needs it for. Only thing I don't like about it is how expensive it is for what it does.
Now, if I could get one for two to three hundred,I would really consider it, but I know a lot more about Android which is probably why I prefer it to apples software. That, and iTunes is a big pile of crap.
I hate having to deal with my kids iPod touch because of it. It's overkill just to add music to what is essentially an mp3 player. All of the extra crap that gets installed for iTunes is a joke.
The iPod itself is great though, and that's what I would expect from an iPad too.

Our fearless leader has it right. The iPad's something different than a PC....and I wish I had one! I use my iPod Touch every day, but there are things I don't do with it because the screen is just too small, even though it is incredibly clear and sharp.

I made the choice last spring to buy a dual-core netbook instead of an iPad, and I don't regret that decision at all...but that doesn't mean I don't also want an iPad. And I don't think iTunes is quite as bad to deal with as some of you are making it out to be.....and I don't mind converting videos either.;)

Of the tablets I looked at and I looked at them all, the IPad2 is the cream of the crop.
With that said it is way over priced for a TABLET! IMHO!
When is IPad 3 due to come out.....heard it was this year but not sure?

Nicely put John & you have some valid points but ...

Unfortunately I do/did own an iPad2 (supplier gave it to me to try out and promote sales - funny thing is I don't like it and have offered to send it back but he reckons its ok to keep it 400 squid down the drain for him) ...

but like you said its something to read the newspaper, play games, read books etc. at £400 a shot it's really expensive when at 1/2 the price I could do the same thing on my laptop/netbook or even android smartphone for that matter.

Since Christmas I have 8 parents bring me their ipads with broken screens where their children (all below 12 years of age) have treated this equipment as if it was an etch a sketch (1 was snapped in half literally)

14 new ipad users have asked me to come around to show them how to stream the countless DVD's that they also got for Christmas as they were under the impression that you could stick the round shiny disc thing in the side of the iPad just like a laptop... (not to mention that they have to pay for my services ontop of the purchase price & 2 of them don't have any other PC/Apple equipment) mind you these few did no homework on the device whatsoever

Sorry to say but as this is just my personal opinion but the ipad and many other tablets like it are just a waste of money and give many users the wrong impression ... I just feel sorry for those that have been ripped off by money pinching commission based salesmen and misleading tv adverts that make out that its the best thing since sliced bread, when it's clearly not. :(

But you haven't used it to its full potential, the thing about your line of work is that you're exposed to the negative aspects of a particular product, the iPad was sold as a slate PC, not a tablet, it's not apples fault that customers didn't do any research, it's not apples fault that silly customers gave their children access to a £400 piece of hardware.
I know you're sceptical about what the iPad is, but I advise you keep an open mind when you watch this video here: Apple - QuickTime - Apple Special Event January 2010

I can guarantee by the end of it you will understand that the iPad was released as something that wasn't to compete with netbooks or notebooks, but it was released as something in between a smart phone and a notebook, also, the iPad was announced in January 2010, and then released to market in march, plenty of time to research, oh, and I never visit seven forums on PC, I've typed this whole reply on iPad 2, not using tapatalk.

I own an HP Touchpad but I would rather have an iPad 2, but I can't justify the cost. I personally think the iPad is the best tablet on the market but I settled for the HP since I was able to get the 32GB one for $150.

I do have Android on it which gives me access to a lot more apps than what was available on the WebOS side, which is a plus.
I also own an iPhone 4S which I like a lot more than the Android phones. it's just a nicer experience.
