Solved How to use snipping tool with context menus

So how do you get the snip tool to work with say a context menu or clicking on an item in the system tray (for example getting a snip of your wireless networks).

I can click open the wireless menu list and then hit the snip shortcut but as soon as you do that it closes that wireless list (when the snip program is opened).

Any thoughts?

Hello Jeep,

I've always found it easier to use Paint like in step 1 of the tutorial below to take a screenshot that includes menus and context menus. Of course, you'll have to cut and crop the image a bit to only include what you want in the screenshot.

Also IrfanView has a Screen Shot where you can hit a hotkey to capture open menus or launcher stacks. Look in the Options Menu for screen shot options.

I use Jing which can be programmed to a function key. The effect is the same as a screenshot except you can select the area you copy and add comments, arrows, boxes, etc. at the same time.

Press Print Screen ( or PrtSc ) key, then crop it.

If you want more than plain vanilla you can use SnapDraw Free

Some time back I put a screen shot in the Free Software thread. You can easily do balloon text, arrows and other annotations without reading a manual.

I should elaborate on what I initially replied ..........
I use PicPick screen-capture program. It is a free program, a poor man version of SnagIt.
In the case such as you described, press Print Screen to capture the active window.
The captured image will appear in PicPick window.
Use the crop option to crop the wireless image.
This will be the result......

I kept trying the ctrl-prt scr and could not get it to work. Doing some research, I found out that laptops were having problems in capturing menus. I also found out that if you use HP laptops, which I have, you do this. Ctrl-fn-prt scr. It worked for me.
