Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Thank you Dwarf. First post updated, and will finish the update when it is downloadable.
Yep, that's annoying. On another note, have you tried their Express service? It's even slower than their normal ones (I usually think that they need to put another hamster in the wheel), but with that I think they're using snails instead!

LOL, yeah I got a good chuckle when I saw how fast (sloooow) it was downloading with it. I don't see how they think that is Express service. ;)

Any luck?

unfortunately not. everything's exactly the same after installing. 5 speakers + subwoofer work perfectly only when I test them in system in playback devices on windows 7 and on realtek HD audio manager. but only 2 work in every other application.

thats a pity. Because as i understand the drivers are pretty much done :(
You must have some weird motherboard....

On mine everything works fine even with much older drivers.

Skip 7 and stay with Vista?

I never had vista and I never will. On XP everything worked perfectly. When I had that problem on XP, then I just unplugged the cables and plugged them back and a small window appeared asking me which of the speakers I just plugged in and after that everything worked perfectly. But no such window appears on windows 7 in any realtek drivers. another weird thing is that no matter which realtek drivers i install, the interface of the hd audio manager looks totally different than the one from XP. even though i'm installing the same exact file. and the weirdest thing is that they do work great, they are detected and i can play all of them but only and only in these 2 applications when I test it:

And when I open for instance iTunes, only 2 speakers work. Windows media player, every game, browsers, everything.

this really sounds like a bit out of place in the firmware of your soundchip.
if it already was like this before 7, i'm afraid it's either:

a) new hardware.
b) other os
c) live with it.

:(

well if it worked on xp, and i'm not the only one with a problem like that, then if they want to make windows 7 really better than xp, then they better fix it.

:p i'm sure they are running. But you posted that it didn't work always on xp neither which leads me to the assumption it's a hardware problem...

well im sorry i should have worded myself better. what i meant was that it was working on xp. however once or twice i had the same problem and all i needed to do was just unplug the cables and plug them again and a small window appeared asking me what i just plugged in and when i chose which speakers i plugged in, everything worked perfectly. so it did work on xp. but it doesn't work on windows 7. but it's not hardware because it does work, but only in system testing or in realtek audio manager when testing.

I have exactly the same problem as you simonfilth, its the only reason im not upgrading to 7 from XP, the sound drivers in 7 are terrible.

there are several layers of software more between the hardware in windows 7 then in XP.

Obviously the Realtek software works perfectly because it's further down the line in the layercake. It has more direct access to the hardware.

Normal audio software however can only access the outer layer which 7 presents to it. Somewhere on your system there is a glitch in connecting the layers correctly.

Since you stated then even in xp (where access to the hardware is almost direct) there's a fallout, this problem gets exacerbated when adding more layers.

But hey, don't give up hope. Who knows what the next Realtek driver may bring :)
