Hi all, my first post and I've spent many hours looking for a thread exactly like mine but couldnt find one so felt the need to post as Im completely stuck.

The background of where i am at is my computer was starting to become very slow on start up (30 mins). I'd turn off everything via MSconfig that was not required to run but it made no difference. In the end I decided to do a clean install of windows 7 to see if that would eliminate the problem. All my programs/files etc where saved on a 2nd hard drive so there was no issue about data. I followed the steps for a clean install, as per a forum guide found on this website, and everything seemed to go fine, if a little long (a couple of hours.)

On restarting the PC it got as far as the loading windows screen (with logo) and just hung there for a few mins before continously re starting. I tried:

1) Booting to safe mode...same result
2) Putting in Windows installion disk and changing BIOS boot order to boot from disk...same result.
3) I tried pressing F8 and attempting to lauch System repair...same result.

So I'm now completely stuck as to where to go next as literally the only thing I can get access to the the BIOS screen and the F8 advanced recovery menu - but anything I do after that goes no further than Windows Loading...

Windows is on a 64gb MLC SATA SSD
2nd 1.5tb Serial ATA 2
ASUS P7P55 LX Mobo
Intel I7 860 Quad Core (2.8GHz 8mb cahce).

Anybody help????

Please send a screen-shot of your hard disk. The programs that you have saved on another drive should better be re-installed.

From the fact that it took a couple of hours to install Windows 7, there is a clear indication that there is something wrong with your hardware and the checks suggested by theog should be carried out and results advised. Did you try installing the OS on a non-SSD Drive if one exists? SSDs are known to sometimes pack up quickly. How old is the PC and the SSD which I presume is internal.

I've had it since April 2010 - all components where new and yes SSD is internal. I didnt try to install OS on other drive that probably would have been my next step. I'll give the suggestions a go tonight and feedback tomorrow. Thanks both.

I've tried the Memory diagnostic tool so far - no issues found. I will run other tests tomorrow when I have more time.

Wanchoo - where do you want me to take screen shot of hard drive from??? Or showing what data please?
Thanks

The same thing was happening to me a few weeks ago, my PC was freezing on the Windows animation and continually restarting. I ran Memtest but it came back with nothing, I took all of my RAM sticks out and one by one I tried them in each slot. I found that my PC had a faulty ram stick, removed it and voila!

Sorry for the life story but I suggest you try the same! :P

Sounds like a failing drive. Test it using the diagnostics CD extended test previously linked.

Try also installing to the HD as suggested, with SSD unplugged. Try install to SSD if it's confirmed good with HD unplugged.

I suppose you can take the screenshot only after you have successfully installed the OS on other than the SSD Drive.

Not clear about the data part that you have written about. I had only said that the programs that you have saved on another drive should better be re-installed. That shall only come after you are back to normal.

OK so I've ran the advanced memory test with 7 passes and no errors so I tried unplugging my SSD and trying to boot with just my HDD in and low and behold I got to the install windows page.Does that indicate it is the SSD thats failed?
What next....do I need to create a partion on the HD as I've not installed windows on the disk before? If anyone has a link to that guide would be useful...

Looks like an SSD failure as I had suspected from the beginning.

It would be best to create a separate 30 gig (approximate) active partition in the beginning of the hard disk and name it C. If you do not want a 100 megs System Reserved Partition to be foisted on you during installation then please do not leave any unallocated on the disk.

Installing Windows 7 is a breeze and takes place almost unassisted.

Good Luck
