Re on screen adds and Gas prices

Hi Bigmck

Yes I forgot to mention the adds for another program at the bottom of the screen, I hate those with a passion.

With regard to Gas prices, we call it petrol over here and it's sold to us in litres. We pay around £1.34 GB Pounds per litre. I think that there are about 4 litres to the US Gallon so we are talking about £5.36 per gallon.

What annoys me? Some people on this forum. When you post a thread and it does not suit them and their view they then answer with a one liner, making the thread or a posting on it ridiculous. Sometimes even in pairs (kind of a gang-up). This happened, e.g., on this thread "SOPA, the bill that wants to cripple your internet" and my thread "Web addiction and brain change". I posted a few replies on this SOPA thread and was finally barred when i hit back at them. It made me decide not to be engaged on this forum any longer. I was helped a few times with problems i had and i want to extend my thanks for that. I am, however, done with this forum.

I do not think that you were barred, it was that the entire thread was removed. So in effect, everybody was barred. I don't care much for that idea, because I don't care much for forum rule 8, however it would have been a little better if the thread remained, but locked. It is nothing that you should take personally, so you shouldn't let it run you off.

If you encounter things like sarcastic comments or a comment intended to annoy you just walk away from the thread.

The good people on these forums far outweigh the bad.

The above is "a good one", but it also brings me to a question. I remember in the 1960's, European gas was about double of US gas. I hope that is still not the case with our $3.25 /gallon price. What does European petrol go for these days?

Not sure what the average in mainland Europe is, but in the UK it's around $9 a gallon.

Even when you factor in the difference in volume between the US gallon and Imperial gallon it still comes out at $7 a gallon.

Right !! when I came to the US, some 15 years ago, I payed here about a quarter what gas costed in Germany at the time (GE slapped on almost 90% in taxes and fees). So when I had a Diesel it made sense to take a ~30 minutes drive to Holland and save about a buck per Liter

Oh no. Maybe in the US. In Europe the matter is somewaht different. See #875 by Seavixen. In most European countries grosso modo 1 euro of about 1.60-1.70 euro/liter goes to the government coffers, i.e. about 60% of what the consumer pays at the gas station. For Americans recalculating: price about $8.00/US gallon at the gas station.
