ATTENTION Crucial M4 SSD owners

Not for me it didn't - it wouldn't detect the drive at all.. I even crossed my fingers and tried hot-plugging it. My last resort was going to be sticking it in a desktop rig and flashing it from there. Fortunately the IDE mode worked fine and that was that.

EDIT: This was in an MSI laptop.

What firmware was on it before Steve? From 0002 the instructions say to use IDE.:confused:

Gary, mine was on 002 and I used AHCI - had to because there is no IDE in my BIOS. Worked flawlessly. I think you are referring to the 'old' instruction going from 002 to 009.

Got my new Crucial M4 128GB.
Ran the firmware upgrade without any apparent problems.
Being lazy I used the Paragon Migrate OS to SSD ($20) software which did its job nicely and left me with the "old" spinner as BIOS bootable.

Things do go faster.

Paragon Migrate is great and does everything for you. I know you'll love your new Crucial. I love all of mine.

I finally did the other three drives (my desktop, housemates desktop & laptop). My laptop was the only one which required any finagling to run the update.

Nice to not have any bricks at the end. :)

Note that the FW level that fixed the problem is 0309.

Just download the "tiny" ISO from crucial (linked in this thread). Burn a CD and firmware upgrading appears quick and straightforward for most - it was for me.

I did all four of mine with drives which had been in use since last August. I'd have felt better if they were brand new drives, since any serious glitch might have had me scrambling to find a temporary replacement. All went well, though, and I have not heard of one person having a serious problem doing this. If the drive is in use then Windows will see it as new hardware when you boot up, but that's about it. :)

Since transferring to the SSD I've found the Reliability Monitor index update hasn't updated. Anyone experienced this?

No matter. You can attach the SSD to your board and run the firmware update, and lay it aside till time permits you to install Windows.:)
