Trying to reinstall Windows 7 without a Product Key--Please help

yes i have an iso of windows 7

wtf-- i dont get why NONE of these programs retrieve the product key-- they all just say BBBBB-BBBB-BBBB-BBBBB

how is it that none of these programs can detect the key on my computer!? am i doing something wrong?

Hi,

I'm not sure this is of immediate help, but perhaps it might prompt someone else to come forward with a solution.

I have read that the BBB product key display is indicative of volume licences where the key is not stored in the registry : this is why tools like Belarc and others can't find it.

Where else could the key be stored?

IMPORTANT!!!
When the product key is not stored in the Registry (like in volume licenses of Windows 7), ANY!!! Product Key Viewer will display BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB

See if these steps will at leats allow you to view part of the key:

Click Start, then type cmd
Right click CMD and then click Run as administrator
At the command prompt type slmgr -dli and hit enter

hmm interesting-- yeah it showed me 5 letters/numbers of the key...

any idea on how to get the rest of it? its a volume license key that i got through school last year, but they will no longer help me out since i graduated

Thanks-- I tried this but still no luck. It returns a product id, but again, the product key line is blank

Do those numbers correspond to the key you thought you got from Belarc? Although I see you have edited that post....

As the Product ID is a number which can be used by MS, why don't you call MS Customer Service and ask them if they can help you retrieve your Product Key using it? If so then it will help a lot of others here, too.

Have you asked the Student offer fulfiller specifically if they can replace the key when you have the Product ID?

Both MS and the MSDN rep at my school basically told me there was nothing they could do. I did not tell them I had a product ID and I knew 5 letters/numbers of the license, though-- should I try again and tell them I have an ID and know 5 letters of the key?

Thanks for your help guys-- and yeah, I edited my post-- I thought Belarc detected a product key, but it turned out to just be the product ID

Yes, I'd ask the MSDN rep that specific question, perhaps email him/her the link to this thread with your request.
