Solved Totally Random BSOD with windows 7 64 and RIVE

Crashed in the middle of windows update.

Woua, could it be one of the updates? I've had no crashes whatsoever in 3 hours, i installed updates and it is crashing like before ...

I restored windows. I'm going to install the updates one by one to see if I can isolate the pb

Edit: every time i try use windows update, the pc bsods after it begins installing updates. When U restore it, the pb is gone and no more crashes.

What to do?

I tried to isolate the pb but it happens even when i update office.

Glad to hear that.
A lot of times a clean install will work wonders.

Hope it stays stable.

Let us know if you have any more crashes, if no crashes after 5-7 days let us know so we can mark this thread solved.

No dice, it's crashing again like before, 15 to 20 times a day.

The only drivers installed are Intel RST, Intel LAN and intel chipset software. It started crashing when I installed the first windows updates (not offices', which seemed to be working).

I'm trying a fresh install one more time, without RST.

I'm getting the new MB today (same model), should I try replacing it?

Yeah I've been posting a lot :) can't live without guys lol I apologize, but it is really frustrating to have a new built and not being able to use it

Edit: Weird, I didn't install anything and I've been stable for at least 5 hours and folding on everything, 3 VGAs and CPU ..... No crashes whatsoever

So install things one at a time and wait to see if it crashes. Dont install them all at once in a rush to get back to gaming

Good advice zigzag.

yannickhk, be sure to make a System Restore Point before installing anything, for each item. If it crashes you can go back to before the last installation.

Ok, i did install every thing one by one, turns out that it had nothing to do with it. It started crashing again so I re-installed for like the 19th time I think :) and it started crashing immediately after windows was done, so re-install again, this time I was able to install some drivers, critical updates, even folded for 4-5 hours before the first BSOD. It took then 10 or 12 reboot to be able to get into windows again. 2 hours stable and bam, BSOD again.

At this point I really think that it is a hardware problem. I'm getting a brand new board tomorrow morning (ASUS hotline said I should RMA), emptying my loop AGAIN and see if that does the trick. If it doesn't, I'm getting a macbookair and never build a pc in my life again lol

Oops, my bad :o

I'm usually not such a PITA. I've been building my own rigs for years and am considered an advanced user (OCN and XS) but this time, I just can't figure out what's wrong. The BSODs are so random that they're making me dizzy.

No driver pb, no RAM pb, no CPU pb, no PSU pb, no graphic cards pb, no HDD pb ....

Anyway, i just unpacked my new MB. I'm gonna install it see if that does the trick.

So it wasn't the MB after all, but a friend of mine and myself finally isolated the pb, turns out it was the CPU that's defective against all odds.

We returned it to the official distributor of intel here in HK, I'll get a new one on Monday.

That was quite a ride lol

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that it was indeed a defective CPU that was the culprit.

I RMA'd it with intel and everything is rock solid now. Thanks for all the help ;)
