So I visit a remote mountain lake. I see it has fish in it. Am I to automatically assume this is the only mountain lake to have fish in it, and every other remote lake is to have none despite not visiting any other lake?

Or say I'm told that the ocean has fish in it, but I've never seen one. I go out to the ocean with a glass and scoop up water, but I don't catch any fish in my glass. Is my conclusion that because I didn't catch any in such a small sample of water, there isn't any?

Perhaps Seeker may not be able to "know" whether or not aliens exist, but at the same time one cannot claim that, while something is true for what that one has experienced (what happens here on earth), that it must be true somewhere else. It may be true, but no one can claim that it is true for sure. In other words, you cannot say since the oceans have fish, there must be fish in lakes (though it is true in this case). Like you cannot claim since earth has enough air to breathe, space has enough air to breathe. (not true in this case).

Likewise, you cannot claim that there IS life on another planet since there is life here, though it is fun to speculate!!

PS Sorry I used you both to make a point! And sorry that my nature is argumentative! lol

Everlong has a very strong point, I'm skeptical on what is/could be out there but I wouldn't go as far as saying WE are the only intelligent life living.

We aren't. We are just the only physical intelligent life.

On Earth ? On The Sun's solar system ? On Milky-way galaxy ? On our Galactic (Milkyway, Andromeda, Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud) local cluster ?

Or on what scale ? Do we even know what is the all possible sets of scales ? Who can guarantee, and on what basis that there is not a planet beyond trillions of parsecs where all the possible conditions of development of life and evolution fulfills, and it happened many a years ago ? Or, just in a primitive stage ?

Moreover, in which degree of certainty we could speak that the condition of earth is the only feasible condition of development of intelligent being ?

A very little probability becomes a huge amount, based on how large the population is, and universe is infinite, in true sense .

Why do you feel that using many words to weave a simple thought is necessary? Is that just to express yourself, or to try to convolute the the question to make it more complicated to answer? Whatever your purpose the end result is that you have repeated what has already been said. The words may differ, but the ideas are the same.

The aliens wanted to see if you could pick a planet out of a bunch of barren orbs, adds some water, then stick some germs on it, and grow a civilization. To increase the chances of success the alien technicians imbued the life forms with ultra aggressive behavior. Feeding even on their own kind if it meant survival. Once a foundation had been laid with a variety of successful species, the ultra aggressive factor was to be ameliorated.

Unfortunately, due to extraterrestrial budget cuts for science and technology, Earth project was put on the back burner, then abandoned altogether. The planned aggressive characteristic amelioration procedure was never initiated. We've been dealing with the "killing is even better than sex" mind set ever since.

As for those who have posted the videos regarding the relative size of the Earth, it should be noted that bigger is not better. Those planets that are very large are gas giants, often referred to as Hot Jupiters, where even the scientists do not believe that life in any form could exist. When they search for planets they believe could be habitable, they are looking for planets of similar size to the Earth. and those at a distance from their star which would provide a habitable temperature, so far they have found none. Of course, they have only found ~200 bodies that they refer to as planets, so it could be argued that they will find many more, but it really doesn't matter whether they do or not, because if by some fluke they did find a planet exactly like the Earth, it will be so distant that science will never be able to find a means to travel there to explore it, therefore will never find any life on it. Still, that will never prevent the machinations that they will theorize.
