Solved Safe CPU Temperatures? running from 9C-24C is it too cold?

So I ended up buying a new processor, and they gave me a free motherboard with it, I got an AMD FX4100 3.6GHZ quad core processor, that can be Overclocked to 4.6GHZ very easily because it is already unlocked, seen some crappy reviews, but this thing is way faster than my phenom x4 at 2.6ghz was...and i dont Game so it is perfect for multimedia, and multitasking!

Ok so my question is, I put a fan in the front at the bottom of my DX4100 Case under the HD Bay because the case has holes and vents to pull in air, it is 70degrees F in my home atm, and my processor is running from 9c to 24c is that too cold?

Oh yea and Im using the Stock Heatsink because I decided to see how good it was before I thought about upgrading, very nice heatsink but I guess if I want to Overclock I would need a better Heatsink!

Should be fine as long as it doesn't go over 65c. But as far as I am aware I don't think manufacturers provide minimum core temperatures

No,no need to worry about low temperatures.

In overlow temperatures you need to worry only for humidity. If your system hardwares are cold and dry its just fine.

Can you please to install Speccy - Standard?

Then take a snip\screenshot of the summary and post it here.

Do the same with Core Temp

Also please take few pictures of your computer outside and inside and post them here for us.

Awesome and thanks for the quick replys, I forgot to think about the tests I have seen where they freeze the crap out of an overclocked processor for faster speeds, the colder it is the faster it is, your right!

Not exactly,the stress from the overclocking\extra-voltage produce high temperatures.

High temperature is the worst enemy of the hardware.

Well,when you have time post the snip\screenshots from speccy and coretemp.

And please post few pictures from outside and inside of your pc.

The new version of Speccy still does not read my core temp, Ill post some pics when my roomate gets home, she has the camera with her atm, either that or however long it takes these batteries to charge for this older camera I have......

I read a review where they used the Factory Heatsink during Overclocking and they said it started getting pretty toasty running at 4.6GHZ so I dont think I would trust it, I would rather invest 30 bucks for a cooler master Hyper 212 Plus Universal CPU Cooler that I have read very good reviews about, before I go into overclocking, just to be safe because sometimes I get up in the high 30c's so another 1GHZ would probably heat up the stalk cooler too much.

I guess the Cooler the better so I should profit from the upgrade.

Not sure I would trust those temps you're reading as at 70 degrees F = 21.1 C. Not sure how in any state even turned off you could get a temp of 9C which equals 42 F. Now unless your pouring liquid nitrogen in...lol the best you should be able to cool is maybe a couple of degrees below ambient to ambient ?? Do you have this rig up against a window?

I agree with linnemeyerhere. I don't think it is possible to get below ambient temp. So, I really think you are not getting accurate temp readings. But, to ease your mind, I don't think you can get too cool CPU temps, and especially with the stock AMD cooler. Most everyone pays a lot of money for cpu coolers to keep them cooler. If those readings are acurate, i will try to figure out a way to install a stock AMD cooler on my Intel CPU.

The measurement programs do not always correctly report the temp of AMDs. There is a reason because of their sensors, but I forgot the details.

I had an AMD 4800+ reported at 9 degrees celsius - in Florida where the ambient temp was 27 degrees. I would not worry about it.

A possible explanation:
Tcase < Tcore < Tjunction

Tcase is the inside center temperature of the CPU heat sink and I think is generally estimated. The temperature monitoring program has to estimate Tcase using an estimate of the temperature differential between Tcore and Tcase.
When Tcore is low I can see a situation where Tcase can be way out and even present a figure below ambient.
I guess with some wiz bang cooling system you could get Tcase actually below ambient.

Here are the pictures of inside my case, it was the fan i put in the front of the case that made it cool down like it is, before it would be at like 30-40C even with the big fan in the power supply but the fan in the front made that much more of a difference in the cpu temp, and like a 7 degree diff with my motherboard I know looks kinda ghetto but its working for me atm lol

My CPU is running between 11 and 23C ATM. and it is 73F in my house atm.



I know I should rearrange my wires lol

I had an AMD 4800+ reported at 9 degrees celsius - in Florida where the ambient temp was 27 degrees. I would not worry about it.

I agree with that, the new rig I built in my lounge has an AMD A6 3650 and whilst I expect it to run fairly cool I didn't expect the temps that coretemp show for it.

According to coretemp it idles at around 4C lol.

There is absolutely no way CPU will be at lower temperature than ambient air with stock cooler, no way unless you do some tricks like by pumping frozen air inside. Sooo the program reads wrong temp, possibly using wrong multiplier on the data it receives from CPU. Your ambient 75F = 24 C and this would be the lowest temp your CPU could possibly be, so you need to add at least 12C to 15C to the readings displayed and even that seems low. I would try using AMD program (they have at least one, me think) to read CPU temp, if anybody knows how to properly decipher CPU temp, it should be them.

download and install Core Temp and see what readings you get. I have always found it to be as accurate as any temp program. If you look at HW Monitor, your +12V shows 8.06V. I know that is not accurate. If it was your computer wouldn't boot.

I already posted the Core Temp Gadget reading on the first page but here is a screen I just took of the Core Temp control.

I see, look how much it kicks itself down to conserve energy 1.4-3.7Ghz



sorry the second screen was over my browser when I took it, you can see the forum behind it kinda in the aero...the core temp on this wall below is saying 1.4Ghz, then the second pic the core temp is 3.7GHZ so it idles really low with the power saving technology. which I think is a contributing factor.
