They lost that fight by being slow and refusing to adapt to the times.See MS is trying to compete solely with android/iOS for the tablet market and that in my view is a good thing.MS has years of desktop OS experience behind them.
During the time it took for Windows to adapt to the market, Android, iPhone OS and iOS came out. yes, I know that technically the last two are the same, but they are 2 different OS' from the same developer.
Meanwhile, Win Mobile 6 was still forcing users to use an old school, archaic system.
Then they released Win Mobile 7, which was pretty widely rejected. Why? Because Microsoft had let themselves get too far behind in the game.
Their answer? Win 8. Force everyone to use an interface that nobody wants to. It's a numbers game, really, one that they're going to lose.
