Hi i have just built my computer it has the following:
NVIDIA GTX 550TI,
H61M-D2-B3 MOTHER BOARD
INTEL 3I 2120 CHIP
500GB SATA II WESTAN DIGITAL 16MG 7200G/S wd5000aakx
8GB RAM
lg gh24ns90 dvd rewriter

the problem is that im trying to install windows 7 onto the computer using a windows 7 disk but when the page asking me what to save the installation to, the partition list is blank. and it says that i need to install the drivers im guessing my hdd should come up on the list but it doesnt in both custom install and the advanced install, my hdd comes up on BIOS as fully working so any help would be great i have tried installing drivers for my motherboard during install page but it doesnt notice the install disc which came with the mother board, i have also downloaded a new driver for the motherboard on a different disk but the same thing comes up

perhaps a silly question--but--did you format the hard drive?

Did you set your 1st boot order to cdrom?

At startup tap F1 key, to enter Bios Setup Utility

Using the arrow keys, select the Boot Tab

Down arrow key to select, Boot Device Priority

What is the 1st boot device, is it cdrom?

You do not need a formatted drive to install Windows 7, or even XP. The Windows installer should see totally blank hard disk drives and offer to install on one of them. It will of course partition and format as appropriate to a nice default configuration. If you could not see any blank hard drives then there might be something wrong with the hard drive, the SATA cable or the motherboard.

I would feel the hard drive to see that it's spun up and be sure the SATA cable is well seated at both ends. Trying the hard drive in another machine is not a bad idea to be sure it's functional.

Again, you only need a totally blank unpartitioned, unformatted drive. In fact, I'd recommend deleting any existing partitions if you don't care about the data on that drive.

Bye.
