Netbooks pros cons and 7

The only issue I have with my 1000he is the low res 1024x600 resolution, and how crappy flash is encoded that it makes my computer stutter. I can play 720 p divx files all day but a crappy youtube video bogs it down. Adobe get your **** together!

Boot times? I don't bother shutting down my netbook, the hibernate function kills any debate about boot times. I'm back in windows in 10 seconds or less. Battery life? 4 hours super performance mode, and 6 to 7 hours on battery saver mode. I usually run it in battery saver except when I want to watch youtube and I have move to performance mode (really adobe?really?

I agree. I can't believed it either. I have to watch low quality YouTube videos or it stutters, but can watch recorded HD TV transferred to my netbook from my Media Center. Youtube needs to re-encode everything in SilverLight ;)

What testing have you done? My experience and pretty much the rest of the internet agrees that battery life is worse in Windows 7. At least until better drivers come out.

Tom's Hardware actually tested it, and XP SP3 killed 7 RC in the battery test on an Acer Aspire One. My general observations on an Eee 900HA agrees with these findings.

In fact, XP killed it in most of the benchmarks. I love Windows 7, but XP is (obviously) still faster on older/slower hardware.

Well, i bought an acer one when it came out. Impulse buy you could say, but im so glad i did it. Sent it away to a fella who mods them, came back twice as usefull to me. I would and i mean this be absolutly gutted if i had to get rid of it. This thing has survived two children, being dropped three times and god knows what else. I have just bought a laptop as the one, as brill as it is for certain things just cant cut it. Having said that i can only blame the onboard graphics, as the rest of the specs are actually decent. But portability its second to none. Never tried any other brand but i can assume that owners of lenovo etc.... all feel the same way. Put a bigger battery in it, 8-9 hours of use. Windows 7 runs nice on it also

I have to agree.
I got my Asus Eee PC901 to take to Florida with me. I got two full films and an episode of Family guy out of it on the plane. This was with XP.
Last week i thought i would try the same test, same films, with W7 7600.
I got just about halfway through the second when the 901 shut down. I would say thats about 2 hours short.
I do notice the fan is on a lot more, in fact i fidn my home PC is also running its fans at higher speeds.
Ill stick with W7 because i like it and with my 901 having good battery life anyway its not a huge problem.
I really only using when travelling, to check emails, net browsing and as a portable entertainment system.
For me its ideal. Ive never owned a laptop due to their size/cost. My 901 fits in my guitar bag or rucksack just perfectly and most of the time i dont have to worry about taking a charger with me.

Well i dont know about you and the rest of the internet, but on my HP Elitebook 6930p, win 7 build 7264 x64bit performed far superior to vista ultimate sp2 x64. I wont have my daughter this weekend so i'll be able to load 7600 rtm on it and see what happens. I've never tried XP.

HP Elitebook 6930p != a netbook.
Vista != XP.

Enough said.

i have just bought myself a toshiba satallitte, mainly due to the screen resolution i needed. But thats the only reason. I couldnt bare to be without my netbook, combined with my Orange mobile bb its a winner everytime. Only thing that makes me laugh is of the two, the netbook with specs similar to the laptop really sufferes i comparison. Just goes to show the graphics in the netbook arnt that good. If acer fixed it ( which due to size i dont think they can) then it would be a winner. But win 7 on the acer is a fantastic combination

netbook battery consumption isn't that much difference then a laptop, specially mine. And have you or toms hardware or the rest of the internet tested AGAIN with the MOST RECENT BUILD of win7????

Thought I would let you in on my Experiences so far. Bought an ASUS EEE 1005HAB today from Best Buy and a 2GIG mem stick.

Installed Windows 7 Retail (RTM) off USB and it found everything easily. Ive not gotten to install the Function Key drivers yet as my wife is using it now but so far on 2 gigs it's just as fast as the default XP was.

Yes the screen is a bit smaller but for what were using it for perfect size, price, and features and the fact that Windows 7 installed and is running so WELL is crazy!

Wonder if I got a 4 gig stick and or used a ReadyBoost USB on this baby! I would prefer the RAM as I hate dongles hanging out the sides.

SO far Loving it!

Best part is I get my iMac back from the kids they can play all their flash based games Wizard 101, Free Realms, and Nick Jr without stutter.

325.00 for a Windows 7 Portable Computer is Awsome!

I'm convinced everyone is in denial. XP runs CONSIDERABLY faster than 7 on an Atom-based netbook w/ 2GB ram.

I would love for that to not be the case, but it is. It's certainly usable, but a bit like running through mud with rose colored glasses on.

7 is great on modern hardware, but current netbooks aren't that "modern" compared to a core 2 duo laptop, less a beefy desktop.

Not sure whos got the glasses on.
Are you saying um own tests are wrong? Maybe i need a new stop watch then ;-)
And i totally disagree with the use of the word CONSIDERABLY. That IME, is rubbish. Faster in certain circumstances "maybe" but not by as much as you think and not all the time.
