Samsumg R530 need help please

My partners Samsung R530 laptop turn itself of lastnight, on booting back up it entered the recovery screen. she put the back up disc created when she first got the laptop (brand new) when the disc is inserted it say operating system can not be found and it won`t use the disc to recover it.
i`ve downloaded a samsung recovery disc which does boot but i`m at a total loss as to what to do from there onwards as the repair fails to work due to a error.
my concern is that there is no back up of windows 7 and i don`t want to do anything that might wipe the hard drive as she has files on there that she doesn`t want to loose.
any help would be great

Download Ubuntu: Download | Ubuntu
You will need to boot off of this disc. Don't do anything with the computer until you see two options on the screen: Install Ubuntu and Try Ubuntu. Select Try Ubuntu. Once it loads the desktop, double click on the hard drive that is in the laptop. Copy the users folder to an external hard drive. Now you have a copy of the documents, pictures, music, videos, and downloads. Now, download the appropriate Windows 7 iso and burn it to a disc:Windows 7 ISO x86 and x64 Official Direct Download Links (Ultimate, Professional and Home Premium) « My Digital Life
You need to boot off of this Windows 7 disc once it has been burned. Click next on the screen that says Windows 7. In the bottom left of the next screen, click repair your computer. Click next on the next screen. Now, click startup repair. Post back if startup repair didn't fix the problem.

update on the problem,
i used ubuntu to access the hard drive. on doing this i can`t access the hard drive.
it`s showing as followed
overall assessment: DISK FAILURE IS IMMINENT
and on the self test it is showing: Read Error Rate.
i got a feeling the partition with win7 and the files i need to rescue is totally screwed, but i maybe wrong? any other methods to try and recover the hard drive would be great

Either the file system is corrupted or the hard drive is going bad. Ubuntu won't tell you this unless there is a problem with the hard drive. Do you have any backups of the data on that computer?

affraid not, she didn`t do a complete os backup, if there was a way just to get the photos she had on the os partition then i`d put a fresh install of windows 7 back on it, thats the only thing on there that she really wants recovering

Would Ubuntu let you acess the hard drive at all. Did you hit ok when it said that the hard drive was failing?

I know windude is helping but I'll give an idea. Try using seatools (| Seagate) to test the drive and then repair it (if necessary). It should work with all drives not just seagate ones

no it can`t open the hard drive at all, and when i press ok it does nothing, dialog box stays on the screen with: EXAMIN,CANCEL and OK

whats the best way to use this? put it on a memory stick and use it in ubuntu?

It's best to use the DOS verison (SeaTools for DOS | Seagate) and burn the iso file to a cd, like you did ubuntu. Put it in the PC and boot from the cd. It will open the program and you can test the drive. All instructions are provided in the link

Take a look at this: SeaToolsforWindows_Warranty. Click on Seatools Sector Repair tools.

EDIT - Remember, there is a high possibility it wont be able to repair it but we can hope

Your hard drive is pretty messed up. I hope you have backups because you are going to need a new hard drive.

If you really want the things off it and don't have a back up, it might be time to take it to the professionals. They can take the disk apart in their clean rooms (DON'T DO IT YOURSELF) and repair it. If seatools can't fix it using the method in my previous post, the only way that has a high likelihood of you getting your data back is via the pros

+1 to that! They can recover your pictures and everything else you want recovered. I will warn that they are expensive to use, but they can get your photos back.

i just realised that seagate didn`t run repairs and wasn`t given a code at the end of the scan, also had a smart trip warning as scan start?

Your hard drive is fried. You need to take it to a professional to get the data recovered off of it.

You may be able to repair something by running it again but with 10 errors it is pretty messed up. Only a pro can help now.

For future reference, try monitoring your hdd's with this CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World because it will worn you when it's about to die.

And remember, BACK UP!!!
