To replace the stick, can i copy paste the contents from this stick to the new one? Or would i need to download the entire thing into the new stick again?

Isnt downloading part of the preparation for boot?

"Run the downloaded program--mssstool64.exe or mssstool32.exe

Choose the option On a USB flash drive that is not password protected

.
The install program will format the usb stick using the NTFS format.
The install program will download about 210 mB."

Do i have to download the 210mb all over in the new pendrive? Or can i just copy paste the contents from the Pen drive which failed to boot, onto the new pen drive i want to test?

Try this. Turn off your computer. Insert the USB stick and turn it on. Enter the BIOS and look at the boot device list. If the USB stick is properly formatted and is a valid boot device, you should be able to change the boot order and select the USB stick.

You downloaded the file. Just run it and follow the instructions. There is probably a way to copy the files and prepare the flash drive, but in the time it would take to explain it and have you do it, it would be faster to just let the program download the files again.

Ok ill download them again.

BTW, i tried what you mentioned about booting. USB stick lights up and is recognized by BIOS. I can even set it up as the first boot device in priority (removable device).
But when i boot with that as my first boot ... i get an error saying insert proper boot device and restart or hit enter.

That's when karl suggested that i try it on another USB stick.

So ill put the files for download on the other stick now

Make sure you have an intact version of latest installer ISO: Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

If stick is not detected then write confirmed ISO to stick using trial version of UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive which always works for me.

Asus mobo one-time BIOS Boot Menu is F8. Stick may be listed under USB, REmovable or even HD's, though you may have to click on choice to expand it.

Sorry but i am quite confused now.

Am i supposed to make a Win7 bootable USB? Or a WDO bootable USB? Or are they the same thing?
I just followed the procedure mentioned by karl again... this time with the 32bit version.
Results are the same as before.

Cant boot.

My apologies, Karl and Gregrocker

:D
This reminded me, i was hitting F8 on the wrong screen. When i hit it on the Screen that displays the Name of the OS, it just asks me to choose from between boot normally or safe mode etc etc.

I hit F8 as soon as i hear the boot beep and it gave me the option to boot from the USB and it worked.
Problem was ... i loaded the 32bit this time and i got a notification to try the 64 bit one.

Thanks a ton anyways.

And my apologies as I thought you were in need of the Repair Disk but were downloading the Win7 installer ISO to use instead which is more readily available to download and write to stick, and very valuable to have on hand.

Normally WDO is recommended when Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

If Win7 is still bootable even in Safe Mode then I would install Malwarebytes to update and run a Full Scan.

If the corruption cannot be cleaned up working through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 then I would strongly consider a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

With 2gb RAM I would reinstall 32 bit. You have hardware using some of the RAM - see how much on the Memory tab in Resource Monitor.

I've never seen 32-bit drivers not be found if not supported by the OEM during a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Yes i have a 2GB ram stick. Generally on start up my PC is using around 750MB ram. But right now its at over 950MB (i think over 100mb goes to mozilla)

I wasnt actually doing a clean install. I can load 32bit drivers during clean install. Am just scanning my PC for malware by booting my pc with a Windows Defender Offline USB. It wasnt accepting my 32bit set up of WDO earlier since my OS is 64bit

:) my USB is loaded with WDO-64 bit now
ill put it on full scan now n go to bed. will have the report ready by tomorrow morning hopefully.

Good. Keep us posted. I also edited my post above to better reply to you but will take the time to re-read the thread later this evening after I get back from the beach.

he must use the same bittiness version of WDO as he has for a Win 7.

In other words,
Win 7 32 bit means use 32 bit version of WDO.
Win 7 64 bit means use 64 bit version of 'WDO.

Ill read the troubleshooting guide later tonight. Normally, i would have gone for a fresh install since i can back up my data easily. But am pressed for time till the month end. With my slow net speed, re-updating my drivers and other softwares would be time consuming since i dont have a backup file for these.

oh ok

ill do it sometime early next month then i guess.

Just 1 little thing, my net dropped several times while downloading WDO into my USB.

ALso i downloaded, both 64bit as well as 32bit versions of WDO.

As a result, my C drive may have several instances of the installed files or set up (whatever it was downloading). And am missing over 1GB of space. Can you tell me what location does WDO download the files to? Id like to clear the duplicate ones n regain my disk space.

they are downloaded to the location specified by your browser.

Many programs use the %temp% folder as a working location.

You can use CCleaner to cleanup behind you. Link in my signature.

you can use Cleanmgr.exe to cleanup.

you can clean the %temp% folder yourself.

WIN | type %temp%| ENTER | CTRL + A keycombo | CTRL + D key combo |
empty your recycle bin (right-click on the Recycle bin icon and choose Empty Recycle Bin

you can use Temp File Cleaner from Old Timer:
TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums

Of course, you can uninstall programs that you do not use.
